For the Love of Collars

«Add a collar» is the new «belt it»… a styling hack that converts even the dowdiest of tops into a zoom-ready look is the detachable «faux collar». With waist-up dressing still on the agenda, it is the perfect way to transform even your PJ into something new. I recommend getting different ones so that you look different every day. Think turbo-charged, XL collars that protrude past shoulders, and are repleted with ruffles and fashioned in tartan, gingham, florals and even leather. Below are my favorites. Cartier Tank Cintrée

For the occasion of the Tank Cintrée’s 100th birthday, Cartier presents a limited edition of 150 numbered pieces, all sold before the launch, illustrating the success of the new editions of Cartier watchmaking’s signature designs. A very faithful tribute to the original model that marks its entry into the 21st century. Its simple and curved design, the scope of its vertical case and the elegance of its «eggshell» dial made it destined for aesthetes from the outset. For this new watch, the Tank was elongated and is characterised by the curvature of its case. Comfort and ergonomics, its name comes from its curved shape which allows the watch to mould itself naturally to the wrist.

Tank Cintrée in 1921

While the thickness of its case measures 6.40 mm today, all of its signature aesthetics remain: the «rail track», Roman numerals, apple-shaped hands, beaded winding crown set with a sapphire cabochon and ardillon buckle bracelet. An aesthetic signature that remains unchanged since its creation in 1921, it is a watchmaking classic that is now equipped with a Manufacture movement with manual winding, the calibre 9780 MC.

My Look: Must-Have

Meet my newest must-have, the dream of every fashion lover’s wardrobe: the beautiful Hermès Birkin bag in shiny Rose Schéhérazade Porosus Crocodile leather. I went for size 25. Collectors like me are in thrall to the extraordinary craftsmanship behind the creation of the ultimate Hermès bag. It is a wearable work of art, a striking blend of breathtaking design with the most luxurious materials. During my stay at the Baur au Lac in Zurich, I combined it with a beautiful checked suit by Ralph & Russo. The brand is using for every ready-to-wear item made the same exquisite craftsmanship, modern artistry and detail as its couture pieces.

My look: Double-breasted checked wool-drill blazericon and matching cropped checked wool-drill wide-leg pants, both by Ralph & Russo, pussy-bow silk-chiffon blouseicon, and gold-tone, enamel and faux pearl clip earrings, both by Saint Laurenticon, embellished satin and mesh-trimmed parasisal straw fedoraicon by Philip Treacy, shiny Rose Schéhérazade Porosus Crocodile 25 Birkin bag by Hermès, and Rabakate 100 bow-embellished suede pumpsicon by Christian Louboutin.

Prada and UNESCO Sea Beyond

Prada and UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) present the last phase of the educational programme Sea Beyond, a tailor-made pilot conceived for secondary schools all around the world to raise awareness on ocean preservation and sustainability.

Sea Beyond sought to educate the new generations about adopting more responsible and mindful
behaviors towards the ocean and its resources, promoting sustainable consumption in line with the
United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the first phase of the project (October 2020 – January 2021), high school teachers in ten cities around the world (Berlin, Cape Town, Lisbon, London, Mexico City, Milan, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Venice) took part in webinars conducted by UNESCO-IOC experts, in which they received training on how to develop an educational module dedicated to the theme of ocean sustainability. Every school received a «Sea Beyond» toolkit made of recycled cardboard, containing educational as well as creative materials to enable students to play an active role in a global ocean sustainability movement.

During the project’s second phase, starting on the 25th January 2021, students, as true «sea ambassadors», have been tasked with developing awareness campaigns focused on ocean preservation as part of an international competition.

At a virtual event on the 26th March 2021, an international jury will announce the winning campaign. Lorenzo Bertelli, Prada Group Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Vladimir RyabininExecutive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and Assistant Director General of UNESCO, will be joined by international personalities who have dedicated their talent and careers to saving our ocean.

Jury members include (from top left to bottom right): Italian writer Alessandro Baricco; aquanaut, oceanographic explorer and environmental advocate Fabien Cousteau; environmental artist Anne de Carbuccia; marine scientist and social entrepreneur Kerstin Forsberg; and Italian gold-medalist free diver Alessia Zecchini. The jury will help Prada and UNESCO selecting the most creative project. The event will be moderated by Brazilian marine activist and artist Patricia Furtado de Mendonça.

The winning campaign will be disseminated on Prada and UNESCO social channels as well as on
www.pradagroup.com and www.ioc.unesco.org, while the school of the selected project will be
honored with an award of € 5,000 to be invested in educational materials.

The whole event will be live-streamed on www.pradagroup.com, starting from 2.00 pm CET
on March 26th, 2021.

Tomo Koizumi x Emilio Pucci

Florentine luxury brand Emilio Pucci is continuing to welcome creative voices to interpret the DNA of the Maison; for S/S 2021 the brand has invited Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi to create a unique capsule collection which will be available at Net-à-Porter for a two-week exclusive preview from now.

The collaboration is a creative dialogue between Pucci’s clean and dynamic designs and Koizumi’s spectacular shape. Both sides are united by their shared passion for color, a strong vision of woman and a graphic and bold approach to silhouettes. The result is a capsule collection that honors the union of creative universes and brings to life sculptural handmade pieces, conferring Pucci an unexpected three-dimensional vibe.

A stunning statement piece from the collaboration: Ruffled tulle mini dress

In harmony, Pucci’s vibrant colors blend with Koizumi’s spectacular, frothing creations. The bold silhouettes are cheerful and unrestrained iterations of Pucci’s clean aesthetic, with color taking center stage, inspired by the archive «Vetrate» print.

The capsule collection is composed of 11 sculptural organza outfits; an amusing pouch, fancy T-shirts and charming «pompon» sandals adding a fun twist.

The most wearable piece of the collection: Cotton-jersey and ruffled tulle T-shirt

Setting off the tone, Tomo Koizumi’s artistic proposition accompanies the Pucci S/S 2021 collection which explores the rich stylistic heritage from the Marquis Emilio Pucci and redefines it for a contemporary wardrobe.

Thank you, Tomo Koizumi and Net-à-Porter for this beautiful illustration!

«This is a dream coming true. I have always desired to collaborate with a fashion house with such a rich heritage like Pucci. It has been a great pleasure to have the opportunity to get inspired by the timeless beauty of the Marquis Emilio Pucci styles and the perfect harmony of the brand’s colors.» – Tomo Koizumi

Meet Fashion Superstar Tomo Koizumi

Born in Japan in 1988, Tomo Koizumi‘s interest in fashion began from watching his fashion-loving mother in his childhood. His encounter with the book «John Galliano for Dior» in his early years was a very eye-opening event and made him decide to become a fashion designer. He has no formal fashion training and studied fine arts in his hometown Chiba, which is close to Tokyo, but has always had a passion for fashion, getting his hands on every fashion magazine he could.

It only felt natural, that he launched his own brand TOMO KOIZUMI successfully in 2011, after a boutique owner became interested and picked one of his dresses – which he created while he was a university student. He started as a stylist and costume artist assistant, before moving on to his next career step, becoming a costume designer. In February 2019, his very first runway show took place in New York with the support of the world-famous super-stylist Katie Grand, who discovered his works on Instagram, Marc Jacobs, and KCD Public Relations, Inc.

Koizumi came to show his rainbow fantasy gowns at her friend, and long-time collaborator, Marc Jacobs’ Madison Avenue store during New York Fashion Week for F/W 2019 and it became one of the most talked about shows of the seasons. Two of his pieces were also exhibited at the MET museum and the museum bought one of his works for its permanent collection. In April 2020, he was finalist and joint winner pf LVMH 2020 prize. Bright colors and bold silhouettes are the signature of his made-to-order collections and costumes, that international celebrities and artists love.

Thailand-based fashion editor and entrepreneur Nichapat Sop Hap wore one of Koizumi’s designs to the Met Gala in 2019.

Lady Gaga in Tomo Koizumi in 2016

You won’t find Tomo Koizumi’s voluminous pieces in stores. He is not interested in creating for retailers. Instead, he prefers to produce one of a kind creations. Star-studded clientele includes: Lady Gaga, who wore one of his designs on a visit to Tokyo in 2016, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. Therefore you will be very excited to read about his collaboration with Emilio Pucci in my next post that is available now!
