My Look: Take Care of Your Mind

«Take care of your mind, your body will thank you.
Take care of your body, your mind will thank you.
»

A sentence that is very true. Taking time for yourself is so important. Spending a night or a weekend in a beautiful hotel room by myself is pure luxury for me. Putting on a comfy look, enjoying a bath, reading without any distraction recharges my batteries immediately. Here you see me in my room at the La Reserve Eden au Lac, sporting my new Hermès Kelly Danse in different ways. Happy, relaxed and fully energized for many projects coming up this month.

My look: Selma ribbed-knit cardiganicon, Aeris ribbed-knit braletteicon, and Tala tie-front ribbed-knit wide-leg pantsicon, all by Jonathan Simkhai, Kelly Danse II in Verso Blush/Rose Jaipur Evercolor leather with silver hardware by Hermès, iridescent lambskin sandals in light bronze by CHANEL (Cruise 2021), Carrera Automatic Chronograph by TAG Heuer, and silver-tone, crystal and faux pearl necklace by Alessandra Rich.

Hermès Kelly Danse

In the 1930s, Robert Dumas, son-in-law of Émile Hermès, whom he succeeded at the head of Hermès (1951-1978), created the women’s bag with straps. He designed a trapezoid shape with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps, and with it he brought the house into the era of boldness and modernism.

In the late 1950s, legend has it that Grace Kelly, a Hollywood star turned princess of Monaco, was photographed holding the bag over her stomach to conceal the early signs of her pregnancy.
The bag shot to international fame and was renamed the Kelly.

The Kelly bag comes in different sizes and styles (like the Kelly Pochette or Kelly Ado for example), offering different aesthetics. There is no «right» size or shape. Although right now smaller bags are the rage, the size for you is the size you choose.

Recently, I have added a Kelly Danse to my Hermès collection. Originally released in 2007 by Jean-Paul Gaultier, who was at the helmet of Hermès at that time, Kelly Danse is a more casual and multi-functional version of the iconic Hermès Kelly. Without the top handle, and with a long strap, you can wear it seven different ways: around the waist, as a crossbody bag, a shoulder bag at two different lengths, as a wristlet, a clutch and even as a backpack!

Danse means dance in French. The idea behind its creation was to attract a younger audience: young ladies who like to dance while having their hands free. Kelly Danse was a revolutionary design for the brand. However, it was discontinued in 2013 because the shape was too «advanced» and fashion-forward. Comfortable cross-body bags were not so trendy at that time.

However, as it often happens, after the bag has been discontinued, the bag has quickly turned into a rare collector’s item and was re-introduced in 2019. Known today as the Kelly Danse II, the bag is around 22 cm in length and 17 cm in height. In terms of dimensions, the Kelly Danse II is very similar to its predecessor.

I chose my Kelly Danse II in Verso Blush/Rose Jaipur Evercolor leather (a leather that is very resilient to wear and tear) with silver hardware and love it, as it is without a doubt, the most versatile of all Hermès bags.

Eden-Roc New Fragrance by Dior

At the very tip of Cap d’Antibes in the South of France stands one of my favorite hotels in the world, the majestic Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, which also belongs to the Oetker Collection.

In celebration of the hotel’s 150th anniversary and to pay tribute to its exquisite natural surroundings, the ‘Grande Dame’ has collaborated with Maison Christian Dior on a signature Eden-Roc fragrance – a fusion of two emblems of French art de vivre: the inimitable Parisian elegance of Dior and the sun-bathed luxury of this iconic palace.

«When creating Eden-Roc, I was imagining an arrival at the hotel by sea. The salt, the sun, the rocky shore and the lush vegetation… The sillage is an olfactory image of this magnificent refuge. The accords express the fullness of the Mediterranean: the seawater, the flowers and citrus fruits, the aromatic herbs and maritime pines. The beauty of Eden-Roc under the warm sun is distilled in this irresistible daily ritual. It is a delight of a fragrance, inspired by the serenity of this unparalleled destination and custom designed in its honour.» – François Demachy, Dior Perfumer-Creator.

The Eden-Roc fragrance is a burst of emotion that lingers in the air like a gentle Mediterranean breeze. A bright encapsulation of the Riviera, its balanced blend of mineral and plant essences invoke the feeling of discovery in a landscape of paradisiacal beauty.

To accompany the fragrance, François Demachy has transposed his melodious notes of seawater, wood and floral blossoms into a candle, a liquid hand soap and a body cream. These three essentials are sensuous conduits of simple, everyday luxury. At bath time or simply for a moment of relaxation, each of these creations communicate the sweetness of life in this corner of paradise.

Eden-Roc by Maison Christian Dior is available worldwide in Maison Christian Dior boutiques for  € 220 euros (125ml), € 315 euros (250ml), and €400 (450ml).

Cannot wait to be back in the South of France … soon!

How to Self-Tan at Home

Today I would like to give you my tips and how to self-tan at home and get professional-looking results. Enjoy these tricks, and product recommendations that will make you look sun-kissed as if you just got back from holidays. Let’s get started…

DO EVERYTHING ELSE FIRST
If you need to get a wax or shave your legs (do it at least one day in advance), get a manicure or touch up your hair color, do it before applying any self-tanner, as those treatments could remove the self-tanner.

EXFOLIATE
The most important thing to do in advance is exfoliate in order to achieve an even self-tan! Self-tanner sinks easily into dry skin, leaving dark patches that look horrible. I use the Aromatherapy Associates Rose Triple Exfoliator for my face and body. Don’t forget too focus on rough spots like the knees, elbows, ankles, and heels.

MOISTURIZE
First of all, let your skin be completely dry after showering. Then I like to moisturize my skin before the application with a light texture (The Reparative Body Lotion). For the rough spots (knees, elbows, and ankles), I dab Crème de la Mer The Moisturizing Cream and rub it well in. For the face, I mix it with self-tan drops. You will be amazed how well the self-tan application works afterwards. Say goodbye to those orange tones …

For my Swiss readers, don’t forget my special promo code VSASANDRALAMER, that is only valid until May 30, 2021. You will receive CHF 40 off any purchase of minimum CHF 200. This code is a one time use and not combinable with other offers or codes. It works only in the Swiss La Mer website. Just use vsasandralamer at checkout. It will be applied automatically.

PICK YOUR SELF-TANNER
After La Mer discontinued their amazing self-tan lotion (still furious about this), I have been looking for something equally easy to use. My search ended when I tried TAN-LUXEicon for the first time. The brand has seriously changed the tanning game with its product range. It is all about personalization as their cult self-tan drops can be added to your favorite skincare. Developed by a team of chemists at its lab, the formulas are odorless and enriched with organic active complexes to create the most natural sun-kissed glow. I use them daily to build my desired tan tone. The revolutionary dropper system allows for total control; the more you drop, the more you glow!

Customize your self-tan routine (from left to right): The Face Illuminating Self-Tan Drops (my favorite), The Face Anti-Age Rejuvenating Self-Tan Drops, (both are available for different skin tones), and Super Glow Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum.icon

FIRST THE FACE
First thing, I do in the  morning, I start by tanning my face because it’s the easiest area to apply self-tanner with your bare hands, especially as the drops can be mixed with your favorite moisturizer. Like this, you can customize the intensity. However, wash your hands immediately to prevent any staining. Don’t forget to tan everywhere, including under the eyes, over eyelids, on the tips of the ears, on the neck, and even around the back of the ears, which can be seen when long hair is tied back.

You can also customize also your body self-tan routine: Hydra-Mousse Hydrating Self-Tan Mousse (my favorite, no stains on clothes or bedding!)icon, The Water Hydrating Self-Tan Water, (bothe are available for different skin ones), and The Gradual Illuminating Gradual Tan Lotionicon.

BODY SELF-TAN
Starting the self-tanner application process way down your ankles is probably one of the most important tips to give when it comes to doing your own faux glow. Another great one is to tan the feet with any excess self-tanner from that initial application. Then work your way up the body. Take your time and blend it well. By using the moisturizer on the rough spots, you will see how much easier the application becomes. Wash your hands in between and extensively after the application is finished.

For the lazy ones among you, mix a few drops of The Body Illuminating Self-Tan Drops with your body lotion.

SPOT-MOISTURIZE
Just as moisturizer is important for priming the skin for self-tanner, it can help perfect the results after you’re done applying it. Apply your moisturizer (Crème de la Mer The Moisturizing Cream) over the tan from the palm up to the crease in the wrist and over the heel and up to the crease to finish.

CLEAN UP MISTAKES
Self-tanner mistakes happen, but there’s no need to start from scratch when they do. Use Nannette de Gaspé’s Treating & Cleansing Facial Cloths (you can also use baby wipes) for quick clean-ups during the application process. They can also help you to clear your nails and cuticles of self-tanner.

For dark streaks and patches, you can start exfoliating them off during your first shower after with circular motions on wet skin to help lift the color.

NO TIME TO SELF-TAN
No time to self-tan? Here is your savior! Perfect for parties and events, TAN-LUXE’s Instant Hero
icon is the secret to flawless, sun-kissed skin in seconds. This quick-drying formula delivers a full-coverage tan that can be washed off at the end of the night. The light-reflecting nanoparticles and micro-pigments blur imperfections like redness, cellulite and spider veins, while Aloe Vera smooths and hydrates.

MAINTAIN YOUR GLOW
After you achieve the flawless, sunless tan you sought, certain measures can be taken to prolong it. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, make sure your skin, also on your body, is always well moisturized, and avoid using retinols and acne treatments, which can dissolve color on your face. This will guarantee a flawless, seamless, professional result every time.

Jo Malone London – Marmalade Dreams

Let me introduce you to Jo Malone London‘s new collection of fun-filled summer scents. Those limited-edition colognes are inspired by nostalgic scenes and marmalade dreams.

Sun shines on the village fete where families gather. Brightly coloured bunting flutters gently in the breeze and jars of homemade jams and marmalades sit on gingham tabletops. The warm air is infused with scents of summer: elderflower, blackberry, and rose, and all the fun of the fete.

Tangy Rhubarb
The unmistakable tang of unruly rhubarb plucked from the overgrown garden. Its bright and striking stems fill the bustling kitchen. Rhubarb brings a characterful heart to this eccentric fragrance, complemented by zesty orange and an elegant note of cedarwood.

Rose Blush
Delicate rose petals suspended in a delectable jelly. The charm of these blushing pink petals inspires a prized preserve. Vibrant basil and a juicy note of lychee add a modern twist to this pretty floral scent, cocooned in the comforting embrace of white musk.

Orange Peel
Marmalade making, a most British of traditions. Orange peel simmers on the stove, its zesty aroma  and bitter bite tantalising the senses. Warm woods are blended with orange to create a refined, golden fragrance. Quirky natural rhubarb adds an enticing appeal to this fresh take on the classic marmalade.

Elderflower Cordial (MY FAVORITE!)
Capturing the scent of delicate elderflower buds harvested from the hedgerows on a cloudless morning. The soft, powdery appeal of these tiny white flowers inspire a very British recipe. Complemented by notes of hawthorn and tart, summer-green gooseberries.

All four pair perfectly with Jo Malone London’s popular fruity scent, Blackberry & Bay.

Blackberry & Bay
Childhood memories of blackberry picking. A burst of deep, tart blackberry juice, blending with a fresh note of just-gathered bay and brambly woods. Vibrant and verdant.New bottle designs have been created exclusively for this collection, inspired by the shape and detailing seen on vintage marmalade jars. All five scents are available now as 30ml Cologne.

Which LA MER Texture Is For You?

Did you know that LA MER’s famous moisturizer Crème de la Mer comes in five different textures? Let’s discuss why it’s very popular in the first place and let me tell you why I am so addicted to it.

Originally developed by scientist Max Huber to treat burns sustained after a lab accident, LA MER’s unique blend of transformative biofermented sea kelp and other pure ingredients, the famous Miracle Broth™, has seen the moisturizer achieve cult beauty status. The formulation is now found across the brand’s skincare range to target and transform specific areas.

All creams come with the famous Miracle Broth™ and a few other ingredients that make the consistency to be different. See below please to find out what is the difference between those five different textures?

Crème de la MerIdeal for drier skin.
Benefits: Heals dryness with deep moisture.
Texture: Ultra-rich cream to be warmed up between fingers before application.
Look: Natural, healthy, radiant.

Personal take: My all-time favorite, part of my daily beauty ritual! I cannot live without it all year around. It’s formulated to alleviate the natural effects of aging by smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines. The skin appears immediately softer and firmer.  You can do so much with this cream and I use it not only on my face, but also on a lot of different parts of my body as the elbows, and the knees. An amazing makeup trick I learnt from Mary Phillips is the following: after applying foundation, apply a pea-size amount of The Moisturizing Cream with The Powder Brush all over the face for an instant, hydrated, creamy glow. You can also use this application trick to refresh the glow of your makeup during the day.

The Moisturizing Soft CreamIdeal for combination / drier skin.
Benefits: Deeply hydrates and comforts.
Texture: Ultra-soft cream.
Look: Natural, healthy, radiant.

Personal take: I use The Moisturizing Soft Cream preferably in summer, especially during the day. It absorbs quickly and is a great base for your make-up application.

The Moisturizing Cool Gel CreamIdeal for combination / oilier skin.
Benefits: Calms, cools and replenishes moisture.
Texture: Lightweight gel.
Look: Fresh, healthy, soothed.

Personal take: As I have very dry skin, this texture is not for me, but if you tend to have oilier skin, you will adore The Mosturizing Cool Gel Cream. Store this lightweight in the fridge – a pure treat during the warmer summer months.

The Moisturizing Soft LotionIdeal for combination skin.
Benefits: Quickly absorbing, lastingmoisture.
Texture: Lightweight lotion.
Look: Natural, healthy, balanced.

Personal take: With the legendary Miracle Broth™ at its core, this lotion is lightweight and fast-absorbing to deeply penetrate beneath the surface, creating a healthy glow. This is a texture I also like to use to change a my daily routine from time to time.

The Moisturizing Matte LotionIdeal for oilier skin.
Benefits: Controls shine and diminishes pores.
Texture: Ultra-lightweight texture.
Look: Fresh, healthy, matte.

Personal take: Those with oily skin will know the hunt for the right moisturizer is a serious one and this lotion is perfect for controlling shine. My fiancé loves to use it as it keeps the hydration levels steady throughout the day while keeping the skin matte.

Don’t forget my special promo code VSASANDRALAMER, that is only valid until May 30, 2021. You will receive CHF 40 off any purchase of minimum CHF 200. This code is a one time use and not combinable with other offers or codes. It works only in the Swiss La Mer website. Just use vsasandralamer at checkout. It will be applied automatically.

Louis Vuitton Men: LV Trainers

First presented during Virgil Abloh’s debut S/S 2019 show for Louis Vuitton, this season the LV TRAINER inspires new style variations in keeping with its exacting standards: each pair requires at least seven hours of manufacturing.

Drawing inspiration from vintage basketball sneakers, held dear by Virgil Abloh, and set on a technical rubber sole injected with gel and encrusted with contrasting Monogram flowers, this new version will add a lively touch to all the memories summer 2021 has in store for you. The House’s identity stands out once again with the LV signature on the tongue and side and the #54 signature on the back, recalling 1854, the year Louis Vuitton was founded.

As always, the Monogram pattern is in the spotlight, whether reinvented on denim or embossed on grained calfskin, nubuck or smooth leather. But with its blend of materials and patterns, each LV Trainer boasts its own identity in a rainbow of vivid hues, symbolising all the colours of a summer under the sun of optimism, from dawn to sunset.

Burgundy lit up by sunny orange, blue enhanced with black accents, green contrasted with yellow details… The colours are galvanised on a grained and smooth leather design. The collection also showcases the essential white leather sneaker, adorned with the hand-written Louis Vuitton signature, and the denim canvas one, this time beige-tinted, alongside a reflective silver leather model.

This season, three versions in suede leather and denim take on neon pink and yellow shades, echoing the ready-to-wear line. One of them is entirely covered with pink rhinestones, to attract light and style at every step. While the white leather sneaker is bound to last, each colour and style variation will be subject to a limited drop launch.

Lastly, a pair of sandals, available in identical neon shades, adds the finishing touch to the collection. Fitted with the same sole as the sneaker, it is light and supple, the perfect variation of a model designed to be worn at any time of the day.

Loud, fun, bold, dreamy and even nasty, dive into the world of Ana Hard. The creative designer from Bilbao, Spain, collaborated with Olympia Le-Tan on these four fun bag styles.
