Bags, Shoes and Accessories Trends S/S 2020

After this week’s post about the 20 most important runway trends, you know that we will be wearing tropical prints, bermuda shorts or gypsy dresses. But what about our shoes, bags and accessories? The fashionable additions to the season’s best outfits have an equally polished attitude. A lot is to stay from the F/W 2019 season, such as chain necklaces, single earrings, head scarves, belts and platforms. Furthermore, the runways were mastered by XXL bags, Mary Janes, and vibrant sunglasses that complemented the looks. On the new side of things, I spotted rope belts and hats on many runways.

Enjoy this season’s unbridled fun and catch up on the season’s most covetable accessories below.

LoL, Sandra

The single most popular material of the entire season was humble raffia, plant-derived, biodegradable, promising that your new It bag will have less of an environmental impact.

If there’s one accessible trend to cop next season, it’s the rope belt – at least you can find one at your local hardware store.

Gold buckles, set with rhinestones, embellished with animals as lucky charms, belts play an important role. If you are among the fashion-forward, opt for colorful choices.

Flower pins elevate every summer look to new heights.

This summer, brighten up your wardrobe with sunny shades of yellow and green, or an unexpected shade of blue.

Dust off your silk scarf collection for the next season, as they were worn around the head on several runways.

When it comes to choose your new bag, think big and soft. Many beautiful XXL editions large enough to fit all of your life’s belongings.

This season, chains get bigger and bigger.

Earrings are going solo next season. Just look for a statement-making piece enough to stand on its own.

Hoop earrings never really left, but get ready to see them multiply in size next season.

Hats make a grand comeback and guarantee that all eyes are on you.

With the preppy trend all over the runways, loafers were seen modernized in different shapes.

Thanks to Bottega Veneta’s Daniel Lee for making strong square toes, the decade’s most experimental shoe silhouette are trending more than ever.

Another trend thanks to Daniel Lee, chain accents are a must for your summer footwear, consider them built-in anklets for your shoes.

Sunglasses come in all shapes with a focus on major color, enjoy those new fantastical shades in every hue under the sun.

If sneakers have lost their luster on the runways, ever-practical platform and flatform sandals have emerged as fanciful and comfortable alternatives.

The classic Mary Jane pumps have taken a backseat over the last decade, now they are making their comeback in bold, whimsical, and playful designs.

From espadrilles to sexy sandals, lace-up shoes are the move come spring and summer. If you really want to be trendy, lace them up right over your pants to be ahead of the fashion tribe.

VHS & Chill

Love love love this! Let’s go back to the future this summer and get one of those amazing retro accessories from Louis Vuitton’s S/S 2020 collection. Spotted on the runway, there were bags modeled after VHS cassettes and cases.

Not sure if you are familiar with the DVD’s predecessor – VHS, I definitely am. It was all the rage when I was a kid, finally we were able to tape our favorite TV shows. My mum still has her basement filled with a gazillions of this tapes. Quiet a sentimental memory.

The Louis Vuitton S/S 2020 Video Tape Clutch with its faux magnetic tape strip is my favorite and will range around €4200. Obviously Nicolas Ghesquière will be watching «The Backpack is Back» next season as this is written on the cassette sticker with DIY scrawl. Another quite interesting model is the matching tote bag that looks like a shelf with stacked VHS cassettes. Also a wallet will be part of the collection.

It is not the first time a VHS cassette was the style inspiration for a bag. In 2017, Forever 21, that filed for bankruptcy last year, launched a funny clutch for the price of € 25 with the sticker saying «VHS or Chill». Still, I prefer the Louis Vuitton one…

Magpie Bags

Bags that add extra sparkle – a dream for thieving magpies. High octane glamour is 100% in and this party season crystals are absolutely trending. From subtle jewel-embellished accents, architectural pieces, to fully crystallised mini shoppers, designers have been experimenting with sparkle and it couldn’t have dropped in a better season.

For the day, combine your crystal dream on the more androgynous side – think jeans with an oversized roll neck and a crystal shopper, or masculine tailoring with a sparkly architectural piece. Opposites can attract, you know.

Louis Vuitton x League of Legends Collection

In September, I introduced you to the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and League of Legends, most-played PC game in the world (for the previous post, click here please). Now the french Maison is launching a capsule collection in partnership with Riot Games.

Designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, this unprecedented capsule features unique and original references true to the universes of League of Legends and Ghesquière’s personal inspirations. This collection follows the special Prestige skins he previously created for Qiyana (already revealed) and for Senna (to be revealed in January 2020).

The collection showcases a unique Monogram Louis Vuitton x League of Legends canvas, revisited across some of the House’s iconic and New Classics bags including the Neverfull, the Speedy or the Boite Chapeau Souple and a Bumbag among other styles.

The Collection also features a new Louis Vuitton signature inspired by emblematic League of Legends character Qiyana’s ring blade, as first discovered on her Prestige Louis Vuitton skin.

This transversal capsule collection is completed by ready-to-wear composed of technical materials like scuba jersey, accessories, as well as iconic Louis Vuitton shoe styles such as the famous Louis Vuitton Archlight sneakers, the Star trail boots and the most recent Beaubourg platform derby shoes.

The Louis Vuitton x League of Legends capsule collection will be available for pre-orders on Louisvuitton.com on a selection of e-commerce platforms worldwide from today, December 9th 2019.

So much going on at Vuitton, but loving it all…

A partnership to begin a partnership. The first release – Prada for adidas Limited Edition – is an homage to adidas, championing an emblematic adidas Originals shoe – the Superstar sneaker, originally launched in 1969 and still a lynchpin of adidas Originals style. It also introduces a new bag silhouette, the Prada Bowling bag for adidas, which echoes the Prada Bowling bag as well as the adidas gym bag, in and of itself referencing the world of sports, a style that serves to illustrate the shared narratives and intersecting heritages of Prada and adidas.

Prada for adidas Limited Edition – an homage to timeless classics that transcend generations – is offered for woman and man in exclusive limited editions of 700 pieces, both footwear and accessories numbered with a unique serial.
The duo retails online through adidas.com and prada.com, and at selected Prada stores worldwide from December 4, 2019.

Loewe Dodos and Dragons

«Each year we have tackled different Arts and Crafts heroes of mine,» says creative director Jonathan Anderson. «For me it was a very natural process to do William De Morgan, he was a big collaborator in the Arts and Crafts movement and a true fantasist in that moment

Loewe’s seasonal collection this year is inspired by British ceramicist William De Morgan (1839-1917) and follows in the footsteps of previous capsules based on Arts and Crafts masters William Morris and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

My favorite: Gate mini embroidered leather shoulder bag by Loewe

William De Morgan was renowned for his richly coloured decorative tile designs, and this collection celebrates his signature motifs of fantastic creatures and floral arabesques across a range of ready-to-wear, accessories and charms for men and women.

In keeping with the Arts and Crafts creed of experimentation, the collection showcases a range technical craft processes, including leather marquetry, hand embroidery and thickly layered weaves. De Morgan’s illustrations are reimagined in new mediums, details are exaggerated, and certain garments remake the wearer as the creature itself. This is a collection in which the imagination is set free and the magical is blended with the everyday.
