This S/S 2020 season, designers have revisited the denim skirt. A tribute to the ’70s and ’80s – think asymmetric hem that’s frayed for a distressed look. Wear those long versions with a chunky knit and some cool ankle boots.

I am sorry but there is one more post dedicated to Miu Miu today and actually I am not so sorry because the Miu Miu Denim Icons are just gorgeous – a capsule collection of six different denim trouser shapes, each inspired by and named after the decade during which they were first created and the spirited, stylish and ultra-confident woman best known for wearing them.
Few garments are more evocative of an era than a great pair of jeans, after all. By now a universal symbol of democracy in wardrobe, each person – and indeed generation – wears them in their own, entirely individual way.
Cut in heavy, dark blue denim, 40’s Lauren has the traditional raw work wear feel that characterised the then still largely functional garment way back when. By the Fifties jeans had become more of a fashion statement: 50’s Brigitte features a high waist, is cut in dark denim again and cropped at the ankle, referencing the feminine silhouette of Capri pants. 60’s Françoise is a straight legged, high-waisted white denim design: by then jeans were ubiquitous, signifying youth and emancipation; as their popularity grew so the colour palette, weight and washes of denim proliferated.
70’s Jane sits low on the hip, is in pale washed denim and flared: flower power was at its height, as were bellbottom trousers, and jeans were feeling groovy. The 80’s Brooke is a unisex design, in the dark denim widely favoured throughout that decade but now whiskered to ensure a contemporary feel. Finally 90’s Kate is a mid-blue, eased, borrowed from your boyfriend pair of jeans, as effortlessly stylish and minimal as denim throughout that decade decreed.
Miu Miu Denim Icons capsule collection is available in selected Miu Miu stores worldwide from the beginning of February.

Calling all ’90s fashion fans – denim jumpsuits are back and have been resurrected in multiple styles for the new season. Not just overalls, zipped versions or even dungarees if styled well are hottest pieces of clothing you can wear. Looking sexier than ever, they are hitting the fashion world with a bang!

Kym Ellery‘s namesake Australian label is a favorite amongst the fashion crowd. So beloved are her iconic bell sleeves and flares that we all have to thank her for the trend that has become so recognizable and so widely copied that it continues to take off.

You should definitely not wait another day and get a pair of her signature mermaid pants. I am speaking of these to-die-for kick-flare trousers that billow out in a way that’s reminiscent of a mermaid tail.

One thing is for sure, for cult Ellery followers or newbies to the brand, the denim ones will definitely remind you that jeans don’t need to be boring. The mixture of both the silhouette and the finishings are both equally unique.

Patches and badges pinned or sewn onto clothes, mainly denim jackets, or jeans are still a massive trend. What I like most about it is the possibility to create your one-of a kind piece. If you are too lazy for this, have a look at those pieces:
Get the look (all in the collage above): Patch-appliqué camouflage-print hooded jacket, Paradise embellished cotton-canvas shoulder bag and Mercer embellished appliquéd canvas slip-on sneakers, all by Marc Jacobs, Gestures Coach appliquéd cotton-canvas jacket by Opening Ceremony, appliquéd mid-rise skinny jeans by Karl Lagerfeld and appliquéd satin and mesh backpack by Miu Miu.
Or become your own fashion designer, order a set of patches and transform a piece of your own into something unique:
Happy Days set of three embroidered cotton patches and Vacation Forever set of three embroidered cotton patches, both by 3XI, Funk & Flash set of four embroidered cotton patches and Acid Trip set of four embroidered cotton patches, both by M.I.H. Jeans.

“We feel it’s inevitable and crucial to create contemporary clothing.” – Demna Gvasalia.
The Creative Director of Paris design collective Vetements and Maison Margiela alumni elevates deceptively simple pieces with meticulous construction, considered fabrics and playful proportions. Leading the fashion tribe, he set a new tone for denim with its no-hem-hemline: think cut-off, let-down, frayed and raw. With its coolness, it’s completely street style approved and worth the investment.

And now, aside from Vetements, it’s gone mass: J Brand, Mother, Frame and many others (see below), are going for the uneven, distressed hem.
If you don’t feel like maxing out your budget on a pair of denim jeans, I suggest taking your scissors to create your own frayed style. For all others have fun shopping!

An amazing cool capsule collection by denim cult brand CITIZENS OF HUMANITY, consisting of six pieces, has hit the virtual shelves of online retailer mytheresa.com. The lineup includes distressed denim as well as trucker jackets and slim-fitting jeans. Citizens of Humanity founder Jerome Dahan, women’s creative director Catherine Ryu and the mytheresa.com team were inspired by the heavy metal scene of the ’80s and early ’90s. To emphasize this source of inspiration, model Jessica Miller was photographed by her husband Lars Ulrich, drummer and founding member of cult band Metallica, wearing this exclusive capsule collection.

Everybody will be talking about GUCCI’s embroidered denim jacket this season. And not only because Rihanna wore it recently in Los Angeles. The object of desire is from the brand’s pre-fall 2016 collection.
Personally speaking, I am anyway deeply impressed by Creative Director Alessandro Michele. With his appointment, the Italian House has gone to new strengths. Everywhere you look, you see the brand’s must-have pieces, on the streets or on many celebrities.
Embellishments, especially in the form of embroideries, play a very distinctive part in Michele’s collections. This denim jacket comes with a mix of birds, butterflies and flower applications. My favorite is the back where a huge tiger head graces the jacket along with the printed phrase graphics “l’aveugle par amour” which translates to “love is blind“. That, paired with a shearling lining, makes the piece an instant hit and will for sure turn heads this season.

The rarefied world of couture and the refined ease of premium denim are an unexpected combination. Unlikely matches, however, produce powerful results. 7 For All Mankind teams up with Giambattista Valli to create a decisively contemporary capsule collection that marries Valli’s own attention to cut, proportion, construction and posture with 7 For All Mankind’s quest for perfect shape, immaculate fit, luxurious fabric.
The collection is divided into two deliveries. The first one, out in mid February, revolves around the intense glamour of red, one of Valli’s definitive hues, and the graphic seduction of animal prints, culled from his couture animalier motifs. True to the number so synonymous with the brand itself, the high-waisted skinny will be offered in 7 different shades of matte-coated red denim, from pink to rouge noir, in texture cunningly akin to lipstick and several animal prints. A mini dress, sleeveless top, flared top, shorts and jacket are also offered in similar fabrications.
Denim in 7 different shades of blue, a handful of bright neon hues and sprinkles of sangallo lace make up for the second delivery, out in May, which also includes high-waisted flares, a playsuit, a bomber and a peplum top.
Priced from €240 to €600 the collection has been launched globally last Friday at 10, Corso Como Concept Store in Milan during Women’s Fashion Week and is now available at 7 For All Mankind retail stores, top department stores and multibrand stores worldwide, as well as online.
