Angelic Delights

For twenty-five years, the absolute glamour of the iconic MUGLER fragrance ANGEL has captivated the senses into a unique olfactory vortex.

Nicolas Cloiseau, Creative Director of La Maison du Chocolat, has captured the deliciously surprising notes of this fragrance, blending bergamot, red fruits, praline, vanilla and patchouli, and interpreted its three accords to create three rare chocolates, vibrating with the legendary Angel notes.

CELESTIALFirst tasting note, top note.
A delicate fruit paste with a crisp acidulous attack of moist mandarin, followed by the citrus notes of elegant bergamot with lemon zest, gently tempered by a milk chocolate ganache.

DELICIOUSMiddle tasting note, heart note.
Nostalgic vanilla cotton candy with red fruits and slivers of moist cranberries rev up the delicate layer of praliné with notes of biscuits and nuts enrobed in a layer of dark chocolate.

VOLUPTUOUSFinal tasting note, base note.
An intense patchouli attack with woody and vanilla notes, almost smoky, in a warm sensual dark chocolate ganache with notes of honey and vanilla bourbon.

STARA nod to Angel…
A star with chocolate from Madagascar featuring acidulous notes of red fruits on the palate then notes of nuts persist.

Shelf-life: 10 to 26 days. Available to order from April 24, 2017 here.

For all Angel lovers, I recommend to also get the new ANGEL Eau Sucrée Limited Edition 2017, created by perfumer Dorothee Piot, that was first presented in 2014 and which is now back for a few summer months.

ANGEL EAU SUCRÉE is an ode to sweet indulgence. Sensual and mischievous, EAU SUCRÉE concentrates the aromas of confectionery treats in a swirl of tangy freshness and tantalizingly sweet indulgence. The sugar-coated star glitters with the promise of tangy, decadent delight.

ORIENTAL VANILLA
Top notes: Red Berries
Middle note: Meringue
Base notes: Patchouli and Vanilla

This year’s bottle is coated in a slightly shimmering cobalt blue glaze. The box is decorated with blue and silver stripes, inspired by the codes of traditional confections.

The limited edition Eau de Toilette is in stores now for CHF 69.00 (50ml, not refillable).

Ruinart Jaume Plensa Launch Event in Paris

Ruinart_Jaume_plensa_Lunch_event_Paris

Two weeks ago, I flew to Paris to attend the exclusive launch event of Ruinart’s new artist for 2017: Jaume Plensa, the renowned Spanish artist who is known for his monumental sculptures in steel, glass, marble, polyester resin, concrete and bronze.

He is recognized for his silhouettes of human bodies seated or kneeling who seem to scrutinize the horizon in a meditative manner, like the contemporary thinkers. His sculptures, which play with the relationship between words, signs and the human body, have today become his signature. They are recognisable amongst all the works of art throughout the world and have turned Jaume Plensa into one of the most important players of the contemporary artistic scene.

Jaume_Plensa_Artwork_RuinartPlensa’s amazing art work for Ruinart

Each year, Ruinart invites an artist to create a special artwork for the oldest Champagne house of the world. With Plensa, Ruinart has chosen an artist who has been able to express language, but more importantly the alphabets, the cultures of the world, their spiritualities, their transmissions and the visionary and erudite spirit of dom Thierry Ruinart, a key personality in the history of Ruinart at the confluence of philosophy and the art, merging the heritage with the future.

Ruinart_Blanc-des_Blancs

The event took place at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris where Plensa also gives lectures. First we had the possibility to explore historic documents while enjoying my favourite champagne, Ruinart‘s Blanc de Blancs. Later, we were asked to move into the next room where the stunning installation by Jaume Plensa was revealed in his presence that will later tour the world.

Jaume_Plensa_Artwork_Ruinart_2

The sculpture takes up the shape of characters that he has already created, but there is never any repetition in his work. Every piece is unique. Every letter, assembled by hand, creates a second skin for the form, which is always reborn in a different manner. In the base of the sculpture he has engraved two dates: 1729 and 2016. They are like a secret code, an encrypted message, linking the history between the foundation of Maison Ruinart and the creation of the work of art.

Jaume_Plensa_Sandra_Bauknecht_RuinartWith artist Jaume Plensa at the event in Paris

The next morning, I had the chance to interview Jaume Plensa who is a very witty, charming and interesting gentleman. I loved his answers, the most significant quotes are in bold. Enjoy!

Jaume Plensa Ruinart_3

What are the basics of creating for you? With what do you start?

That is a very interesting question as this is something I am asking myself every day in the studio. I guess the main subject in my work is that I try to create something that people could touch and be touched by. I work a lot in public spaces. Mainly my work is based to identify yourself in the myth of others. We have to break borders and the walls we have been permanently creating throughout history. When I am working with alphabets or portraits of people from different cultures, it is interesting to recognize that we are all so similar. It is just the little things that differ.

Jaume Plensa Ruinart_6

You use a lot of letters in your work. Do you have a favorite letter or alphabet?

You cannot compare one alphabet with another. When you see Hebrew for example which is very rigid and you compare it with Chinese, that seems to be fireworks. Hindi is so beautiful always with a line on top which makes it so rich to look at.

Jaume Plensa Ruinart_10

How long was the process to create for Ruinart and did you have immediately something in mind when you were approached?

In general the way I work is that an idea is born with the shape, the material and the specific scale. Obviously depending if it is for a show, a gallery or for a public space, my attitude can be changing.

It took me around 6 months to create the piece that had been revealed last night. I never understood art as a direction. My obsession was to grow up as a person, art was just the consequence of my life. I have never been interested in being in artist, but I enjoy it very much to express my emotions with visual art. The main material is life.

Jaume Plensa Ruinart_8

When I listen to you, I don’t get the impression that you will ever loose inspiration. Do you ever feel pressure to not being inspired?

Not at all. Creation is a way to breathe. I love when I am flying and the flight attendant is saying «If the pressure is low, please pull the oxygen mask, press it firmly on your mouth and breathe normally.» There are many moments when life asks us to breathe normally, I think it is something we must honor, it takes a little while but the most beautiful experience is when you understand that you are breathing normally.

Jaume Plensa Ruinart_9

Do you ever get frustrated when you are creating because something is not working out the way you have planned it?

Of course. My assistants are happy when I am not there. I have a lot of temperament. Creation is a dialogue with you and yourself. You could be your best friend, but also your worst enemy. That is one of the most beautiful experiences in creation when you must understand yourself, when you must accept yourself and this gives always a lot of frictions.

Jaume Plensa Ruinart_7

The best about Jaume Plensa?

I have the privilege to be an artist, so I have the capacity and ability to observe the world. That is an amazing situation.

Ruinart_Plensa_Jaume

Only 20 bottles of the special edition signed by Jaume Plensa will be available worldwide for €3500 worldwide.

Clinique Fresh Pressed

Clinique_Fresh_Pressed_Joe_and_the_Juice

One week ago, I was invited by CLINIQUEicon to explore the launch of their new Fresh Pressed™ products at JOE & THE JUICE in Zurich’s Sihlcity. A match made in heaven as both brands prioritize the importance of freshness in their products.

For the next three months, their will be a specially created “Fresh Pressed Daily Booster” juice with a high amount of Vitamin C, that is orange like the packaging, available at the Danish juice and coffee bar.

Recipe for 1 Portion of Clinique Fresh Pressed Juice with Vitamin C
4 medium-sized organic carrots
2 medium-sized organic apples
30g ginger
juice of half of an organic lemon
Mix all ingredients in a juicer and enjoy immediately!

What is CLINIQUE Fresh Pressed™ exactly?
There are two skin care products suitable for all skin types- a daily booster and a cleanser that deliver the full power of pure, fresh Vitamin C at the highest concentration to brighten, even and retexturize skin.

cliniqueCLINIQUE Fresh Pressed™ Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%
CHF 99.00 for 34ml (four portions)How to use
Just like your morning fresh-pressed juice or vitamin helps you stay healthy on the inside, this super-potent booster was designed as a daily supplement to visibly rejuvenate skin from the outside – and a simple, seamless way to reinvigorate your de-aging routine without changing a thing. Simply mix 2 drops with your moisturizer AM & PM.

Clinique_Cleanser_2

CLINIQUE Fresh Pressed™ Renewing Powder Cleanser with Pure Vitamin
CHF 37.00 for 28 portions (14g)

How to use_Clinique
This water-activated powder cleanser with fresh Vitamin C delivers visible benefits. Instantly the skin is awakened, purified, with a refined texture and brighter look. This non-drying, non-stripping formula is gentle enough for use each morning, and preps skin for treatment with Clinique Fresh Pressed™ Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10%.

Is the vitamin C in CLINIQUE’s Fresh Pressed™ actually “fresh”?
Fresh means powerful. Pure Vitamin C naturally degrades when exposed to oxygen, so it’s most powerful when fresh. Therefore CLINIQUE has chosen the stay-fresh packaging that isolates the pure Vitamin C until activation, maintaining its freshness and full power for maximum results.

A private introduction to the new line by Karin Marschall, CLINIQUE Education Manager.

Who is CLINIQUE Fresh Pressed™ recommended for?
Absolutely anyone! Although it’s a de-aging product, it also makes your skin look brighter after the first use – and honestly who wouldn’t like this?

If I drink juices that are high in vitamin-C, isn’t that enough for my skin?
Just drinking juices with Vitamin C really isn’t enough because neither your body nor your skin can produce Vitamin C so you should use skin care products that have Vitamin C in it too.

From when and where can I buy CLINIQUE Fresh Pressed™ products?
The products are available now. Either online at clinique.com or in-store at a Clinique counter.

With Shari Jafari, the new CLINIQUE Brand Manager Switzerland, at the event last week.

At CLINIQUEicon, a new wind is blowing. The beauty brand is very innovative, extremely focused on social media and full of energy, with or without a Vitamin C boost. BRAVO!

Andreas Caminada New Hublot Ambassador

Hublot_Caminada

If you have ever enjoyed the exquisite gastronomy by Andreas Caminada, you will understand how much passion goes into it. Therefore it seems so obvious that he is the new chef in the Hublot brigade. Both share spirit and determination for what they do. It is this quest for perfection that brings together the Swiss watch manufacturer and its friends!

Andreas_Caminada_Sandra_Bauknecht_Ricardo_GuadelupeIn the kitchen with Andreas Caminada to the left and Ricardo Guadalupe to the right.

Last week, I was invited by Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, to an exclusive lunch at Schloss Schauenstein, home of Andreas Caminada, to celebrate this new collaboration in Fürstenau, the smallest village in Europe.

Menu_CaminadaSome impressions of the beautiful lunch I enjoyed last Thursday.

Andreas Caminada looks more like a rock star but in his heart he is a countryman who works with local products, grows some of it, and whose cuisine has absolute watchmaking precision. He likes simple and natural things. An international reference, at nearly 40 he is the youngest chef in Europe to have won a third Michelin star, which he did 7 years ago, and his 19 Gault & Millau points and stars have launched him to the firmament of gastronomy. He skilfully combines audacity, innovation and tradition. Eating at his table is like sitting down at the family table, so convivial is the atmosphere he cultivates. I can absolutely recommend a visit to his restaurant which has been voted as one of the best restaurants in the world for eight years. The beautiful castle Schloss Schauenstein has also rooms where you can stay overnight.

Hublot37425

There are destinies that life brings together. 2004, the year that changed everything for Hublot and for Andreas Caminada, the year that marked the start of their dizzying rise. For Hublot, it was the arrival of Jean-Claude Biver as CEO and the birth of the Big Bang, unveiled a few months later in 2005. For Andreas Caminada, it was his first Michelin star.

Hublot & Andreas Caminada – the taste for excellence fused.

Dinner at Matsuhisa Munich

dinner_matsuhisa_munich_sandra_bauknecht

One question I have been asked many times in my life is how I can stay slim while enjoying food so much. I think the key to success is to listen to your body and mine tells me constantly to feed it with Japanese food when possible. It is the best, it is healthy and you always feel light after, but full of energy.

matsuhisa-muenchenChef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa brings his delicacies to Munich.

When I was in Munich for Oktoberfest, I couldn’t wait to visit the Mandarin Oriental that has undergone an extensive refurbishment of the public areas in 2015 and has opened its doors to a new and innovative gastronomy concept, by introducing the award-winning cuisine of internationally celebrated chef Nobuyuki (Nobu) Matsuhisa to the Bavarian capital, and to Germany.

The restaurant follows the successful format of the chef’s original Matsuhisa Beverly Hills and his five other exclusive outposts around the world.

My Look: What If

sandra_bauknecht_alessandra_rich_zff2016

Last week during the Zurich Film Festival, I was guest of NESPRESSO to see the Swiss premiere of «Bridget Jones Baby», the continuing adventures of British publishing executive Bridget Jones as she enters her 40s, starring Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey. «What if» is a major question in this movie that is so much fun. I was laughing through the entire film. The good vibes of the evening continued after the screening with the delicious plates prepared with passion and originality by the young and talented chef Ralph Schelling.

Pasticceria Marchesi: Prada’s Sweet Tooth

prada_marchesi

A year after the opening of Pasticceria Marchesi 1824 on Via Montenapoleone, the historical pastry shop controlled by the Prada Group opened the doors to its new stylish location in Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on Monday.

Housed in the same building as the Prada menswear store, the inauguration of another iconic Marchesi pastry shop is the second phase of a major project in which the prestigious Galleria location of the Prada Group will become a genuine hub of its many facets, where fashion, food, art and a wide range of cultural activities will harmoniously coexist.

stefano-cantinoStefano Cantino

Towards WWD, Stefano Cantino, Group Strategic Marketing Director, said that Prada, which became a majority shareholder with an 80 percent stake in March 2014, will expand Pasticceria Marchesi outside of Italy. “We’ve had requests from international malls, but we are defining the timing. In the medium-term, we will open in Shanghai and Dubai. We are not doing franchised banners and we want to guarantee high standards,” explained Cantino, adding that “maybe” some Prada stores could also house the pastry shop. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

Pasticceria Marchesi Galleria Vittorio Emanuele_14_low

I love the green interior design that is elegant and so reminiscent of the Prada stores around the world.  Part of the space in the new store is used as an elegant tea room which serves a variety of dishes throughout the day: breakfast, lunch, tea, and an evening aperitif.

Open one in Zurich, please!

The Fashionista Drink of Choice

KV_700x990evian® x Christian Lacroix Limited Edition bottles in 2016

10 years ago, some people might have asked what were they drinking? In 2007, the disruptive vision shared by the two brands brought together the purity of water with the creativity of fashion paving the way to a saga of collaborations with the greatest designers and launching the fashionista drink of choice.

Evian bottlesevian® x Christian Lacroix Limited Edition bottles in 2007

To celebrate this success story and to mark the 10th anniversary of the project, the House of Christian Lacroix pays tribute to evian®’s live young spirit, by reinventing the Paseo pattern. Born to Haute Couture, the delicate embroidery design was used for the first time outside the Christian Lacroix fashion collections on the initial evian® Limited Edition bottle in 2007. It has since become an iconic design of the House. This new colorful Paseo Limited Edition version is the pure expression of today’s Christian Lacroix creative universe: flamboyant, Parisian, and with an ever young spirit. It comes in a set of two bottles: a pink and a blue one.

Sacha Walckhoff

The evian® x Lacroix collaboration is just like a wonderful dream come true and we had the chance to collaborate twice… which makes me a very lucky designer!Sacha Walckhoff.

Sacha Walckhoff, Creative Director for the House of Christian Lacroix, who succeeded the founder following the shuttering of the couture house and its transformation into a licensed business, revisited the iconic Paseo pattern that Lacroix used for the red wedding dress that capped his F/W 2002 couture show, and famously worn by Madonna in a Steven Klein shoot for W Magazine in 2003. Its skirt was based on a bullfighting cape with a pattern mixing swirling garlands, flowers and curlicues.

The evian® x Christian Lacroix bottles will be available in 75cl glass bottles and rolled-out in Prestige PET, and for the first time in facial spray. Available worldwide in selected hotels, cafes, restaurants and retailers from September 2016.
