KORA Organics by Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr KORA OrganicsSandra Bauknecht and Miranda Kerr

Yesterday I had the pleasure to interview supermodel Miranda Kerr for a very interesting project that will be revealed soon in L’Officiel Switzerland (and of course on Sandra’s Closet). Having the chance to talk to her, I was totally curious to find out more about her amazing skin care line KORA ORGANICS by Miranda Kerr iconthat I adore. The twenty-one-piece lineup of face and body essentials is as eco-luxe as it gets.

Being a green goddess and organic-devotee from Down Under, Miranda set up her skincare brand because she couldn’t find pure natural beauty products that delivered high performance results. She explained it to me: “I have been looking for a certified organic skin care line for myself. As I have been working in the industry for a while, I decided to launch one on my own and spoke to a great lab in Australia. I chose the key ingredients. First of all noni, which has over 17o vitamins and minerals. I used to drink it every day and so I thought why not putting it in my skin care line. Other key ingredients are green tea extract and rosehip oil.”

KORA

Her bestselling products are the Luxurious Rosehip Oil and the Enriched Body Lotion.

The Guilty Trip

Sandra Bauknecht on Gucci Guilty Trip 2014

I have to admit that I am a little behind posting. The last weeks have been crazy. I went to Las Vegas with Gucci, flew back for a few days to Zurich to prepare the launch of L’Officiel Switzerland (the first edition will finally hit the shelves on March 7, 2014) and then hit off to Los Angeles with Piaget for the Spirit Awards.

So I have to rewind a little to tell you all about the amazing time I had in Nevada. There is a saying that “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…” but of course not on Sandra’s Closet. I will give you every little detail of this amazing time. This reason for it  was to discover the Gucci Guilty Stud Limited Edition, a glamorous new take on the striking scents.

Gucci Guilty Stud Presentation-1

Inspired by the modern rebel, Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini created Gucci Guilty in 2010, a bold pair of fragrances for modern trend-setters. In 2011, Gucci Guilty Intense was launched, followed by Gucci Guilty Black in 2013. 20 million bottles have been sold, it is a true success story.

Gucci Guilty Stud Trip CollectionConcert Bruno

This year, it its all about a rock star attitude. The Italian brand has always loved rock’n roll and rock’n roll has always loved Gucci. For Frida Giannini, it is a constant source of inspiration. Therefore, I was invited to explore the brand’s newest stud collection in the Gucci store, located at The Crystals at CityCenter.

Gucci Studs Shop

To live up to the rock star attitude, we enjoyed a Bruno Mars (Gucci dresses him) concert in the VIP area which was absolutely outstanding. Personally speaking, I have never been really crazy for his songs but after seeing him live on stage, I have become a huge fan.

Bruno Mars

The next day, Gucci has spoilt us even more with an exclusive dinner at the famous Joël Robuchon restaurant located at the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas. Inspired by the fragrance’s main ingredients, the eight course menu was just divine, an explosion for all senses.

Dinner Joel Robuchon

So let’s have a look at the first limited edition of Gucci Guilty (the scent stays the same), available for both for woman and men. To celebrate the brand’s signature mix of rock and glamour, the Gucci Guilty Stud Limited Edition is covered in more than 400 metal studs (in gunmetal for him and gold for her). Frida Giannini says: “I have always had a love of the rock aesthetic. I like to think of Gucci Guilty Stud as bottled rock attitude.“ One thing is sure, these exclusive flacons are true collectors’ items.

Chímpanskí – Support Your Inner Monkey

Chimpanski 4

My dear colleague Thorleif Griess-Nega, Editor for German InStyle MEN, had a fun idea and launched his own sparkling wine brand recently. The intention to create Chímpanskí was to design a drink for people who have enough of show-off drinks from France but don’t want to compromise in terms of quality and style. Find out more and enjoy the interview he gave me.

ThorleifThorleif Griess-Nega

Since when exists Chímpanskí?

I founded Chímpanskí in 2013 after more than one year of research for the right wine cellar. This sparkling wine now comes from Lower Austria and is a mixture of Grüner-Veltliner and Welschriesling. It also took quite a long time to finish the label for the bottle since I had a very definite idea of it’s visual appearance in my mind. After all I´m very happy about the result!

Why did you do it?

The idea was to create a sparkling wine with an image that people can identify with who take themselves not too serious. I worked in German Nightlife business for a long time before, owned and worked for clubs in Hamburg, Bonn and Munich. And I always loved to travel a lot, met colleagues at their bars and clubs all over the world. Throughout all these years I saw a lot. But one thing always seemed to stay the same: Countless people who were buying expensive sparkling wines from France. Somehow I never got used to it but recognized more and more how much that showing-off bothered me.

Chimpanski 3

Isn’t a bit of showing-off quite appropriate for nightlife?

It is but has to come from your inside not from the cost for your drink. I don’t like that thought and people behaving like that! Why should one drink expensive stuff just to separate from others who don’t? When I am out partying I don’t measure my fun at the price of a drink. A drink must stand for simplicity, fun, character. Beside the history and quality of a product I believe in the idea behind as its true value. So I decided to create a drink of good quality and a cool image!

Chimpanski

Where comes the name Chímpanskí from?

My friends and me used to call ourselves: „chimpanzees“. I think it was because these animals are so sympathic, funny and free (at least they are intended to be)!  Thats why I invented the label Chímpanskí and the slogan: „Support your inner monkey“. I think nightlife shall be all fun, relaxation and letting yourself go!

You say „at least they are intended to be“. What do you mean by that?

I hate reading about how much humanity and economy harm chimpanzees and their haunt. Many of these animals are treated badly for so-called human interests. So I started a little cooporation with the „Pro Wildlife Foundation“ and first linked the Chímpanskí website to theirs to share some publicity and awareness. Beside that I have my own sponsoring via PWF for chimpanzees.

Modern Muse – Interview with Arizona Muse

Modern Muse Interview with Arizona Muse

Estée Lauder has launched a new fragrance, so-called MODERN MUSE. It is the first major perfume launch in a while and the brand’s attempt to get back to the top of the perfume houses.

Modern Muse 10

MODERN MUSE stands for the contemporary woman, who is independent, self-confident and sure of her style. Model Arizona Muse is the face of the new fragrance and her name fits obviously perfectly. During New York Fashion Week, the launch of this new fragrance was celebrated with an amazing party at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in NYC (post coming up shortly), where both, the print and TV campaign for Estée Lauder’s new fragrance, were shot.

Modern Muse 4

Before the event took place, I had the honour to meet and interview Arizona herself. There is something undeniably charming about her… enjoy her answers!

Sandra Bauknecht and Arizona Muse in NYC

Your name is already telling it. You are a muse to many women around the globe, a modern women – a single mother and a famous model. How do you manage both parts of your life successfully?
I would like to ask this question to all the other mums. I am lucky to have the most amazing help, great nannies and my mum, even that she is not living like me in London, she is extremely close to me. I used to take my son on my business trips when he was smaller. He is now 4 years old, in school, so he stays in London.

Your secret to success?
(Laughs). I don’t see myself that successful. Everyone is so much more successful than me. I look up and admire so many people. There is a lot more to climb. I still feel so young, I am 24 now, but feel younger now than I did when I was 16.

Have you ever felt pressure to inspire people? To be a role model?
I start beginning to feel that. I look to everyone else around me. So it is interesting to feel that other people look at me. I hope that I am setting a good example.

Do you think that your beauty helps you in daily life?
I am a model. So yes, it kind of helps. But I don’t notice things like that. Maybe I should use it more often. (She smiles and asks me the same question. How can I not love her?!)

Arizona Muse MM

How did you get your amazing body back after your pregnancy?
I would tell other mothers not to rush it, take one year, be relaxed about it. Breastfeeding helps to burn a lot of calories.

What exercise do you do to stay in shape?
I love yoga. It is more than just physical fitness. It is about balance in your emotional life as well.

Which ones are your favourite fashion designers?
Right now, Louis Vuitton! And also Tregar Delaney. They are an English duo who are friends of mine and they design beautiful clothes with high quality fabrics. They have such great integrity.

Arizona Muse in three words.
Curious – shy – warm-hearted.

Are you nervous before the big event tonight?
Yes, I am nervous. I am even nervous now…

Modern Muse Estée Lauder Bottle

One last question. What do you think of MODERN MUSE?
I love the fragrance because it has a duality to it. It is feminine yet strong. The woods give it a richness, but it also has a lightness with the florals. It is now my signature scent – of course!

Thank you, Arizona!

MODERN MUSE
FLORAL WOODY MUSK

Top notes: Mandarin orange
Middle notes: Tuberose, fresh lily, honeysuckle, dewy petals, Sambac jasmine and Chinese Sambac jasmine absolute
Base notesPatchouli, Madagascar vanilla, amber wood and soft musk

Available as 30, 50 and 100ml Eau de Parfum.

The fragrance has an innovative ‘dual-impression’ structure of a jasmine and a wood accord. The flowers are most noticeable but not as prominent as you might imagine. The scent is very soft and develops in a very nice and musky way. Personally speaking, MODERN MUSE is an easy-to-wear scent, extremely pleasant and sophisticated. In stores now.

Interview & Preview: Isabel Marant for H&M

Isabel Marant for H&M Cover Post

Last Thursday, I had the chance to preview the amazing collaboration between Isabel Marant and H&M in Paris and to interview the French designer before the launch party in the evening.

1H&M-Marant-©dMaitre_4806

Creating wearable looks with attitude is her straightforward design credo, all with a Parisian allure. Picking up the most beloved and iconic pieces from her career, Marant has put together an eclectic wardrobe of must-have urban staples, a gorgeous mix of boho elegance and rock ‘n’ roll nonchalance.

Accessories are boho accents. Footwear includes cone-heeled soft boots and a pair of Parisian high-heel pumps.

The same goes for her awesome teen wardrobe which is a playful edit of its grown-up counterpart. Marant sees no real distinction between these two collections – it’s mostly a matter of sizes. I went crazy to shop for my daughter and you might spot us as twins on the street.

Isabel Marant has also imagined, for the very first time, a compact wardrobe for men, which is interspersed with the same careless vibe of womenswear. I love the motorbike leather trousers worn together with chunky knitwear.

Enjoy the little interview I did with Isabel Marant, who was by the way extremely charming and fun:

Sandra Bauknecht - Isabel Marant

Has it been a big challenge for you to design a low cost collection?
First of all, I wouldn’t call it a low cost collection. I was very honoured when H&M contacted me to do this project. If you look at previous collaborations H&M has done, the aim is not to do cheap garments but to create great ones. I am very impressed by the level and the quality that we have achieved for our collaboration. I was surprised that I had no limit and was able to design the clothes the way I wanted them. If you take for example the embroidered sweater, this was a big challenge to produce it in a mass market way but we made it happen.

Which one is your must-have piece of this collection?
They are all must-haves. It depends on your style.

Isabel Marant H&m Cover 1

Isabel Marant in three words?
Easy – Attitude – Cozy.

What is for you the notion of style?
For me, style is having a great attitude and to have attitude you have to be self-confident. And to be self-confident, you have to know who you are and believe in yourself.

Why do people want more effortless styling?
I think with everything what is happening today in our world, the way we are consuming, ecological matters, time has changed. When I started in the ’90s, we were into a fashion that was very bling, with logos everywhere. At this time, I was already successful commercially, but I was not on the high line. I was over this oversexy way of dressing. There were women that wanted to be stylish and be sexy without exaggerating. Now, we are reaching a certain time where people are more educated towards fashion, they are not impressed anymore by super-flashy garments.

Will you see more collaborations of you in the future?
No, I won’t do other collaborations. There is no other brand, where I can do a collection like I did with H&M. Probably, I will do a certain product, but I don’t want to multiply. I see this collaboration with H&M as a gift.

Thank you, Isabel!

The collection will hit the shelves worldwide on November 14, 2013. Stay tuned for an upcoming outfit post to find out which pieces I got for myself in Paris.

Paul & Joe S/S 2014 – Backstage & Show

Paul & Joe SS2014 Backstage & Show

Before the Paul & Joe S/S 2014 show, I was invited to go backstage and interview the lovely Sophie Albou, the mastermind behind the French brand. I got really spoilt last night as I had been already greeted at the entrance with a wonderful surprise, a bag, and on my seat, flowers were waiting for me. Thank you!

Sandra Bauknecht - Sophie Albou

Sophie, what was your inspiration for this season?
I was completely inspired by the early 90s work of photographers Gilles Bensimon and Hans Feurer. Imagine Elle MacPherson and Stephanie Seymour wearing sheer shirts, 501 denim, patchwork, mix of fabric… my main idea comes from those photos. Women beautiful with curves, I think we are ready to go back. I am fed up with the skinny girls. I would love to see happy girls, curvy girls.

Your secret to success?
To do what I do, being surrounded by beautiful people. I love my mum, she is my muse, my husband, my kids. I am so gifted that I have such a great family.

You named your label after the first names of your sons? Have they ever complaint?
My sons are great, they are proud of their mum and are happy with it.

Sophie in 3 words!
Happy, smile, thank you!

Your best kept beauty secret?
Love

Thank you, Sophie!

“Spring/Summer is about harmony with pure Parisian attitude”. Masculine oversized pants, short and boxy, drop shoulder trenchcoats (gorgeous!) along with maxi dresses and short skirts show the nonchalant vibe that is leading Sophie Albou’s collection. A “no stress” elegance is her motto, focusing on natural femininity.

Paul & Joe SS2014-5

The accessories such as woven backpacks, basket bags and studded leather flats are laid back and complementing the looks in a cool way. The must-have of the ’90s, the silk scarf knotted at the waist, has made its comeback on the Paul & Joe S/S 2014 runway.

A beautiful and extremely wearable collection. Thumbs up!

Backstage at Opening Ceremony’s First Show

Opening Ceremony SS2014

Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Co. all came to watch Opening Ceremony‘s runway debut that took place yesterday evening at Pier 57 in New York City. The runway felt like a scene of Fast & Furious when the audience spotted a row of very luxurious cars of which the models were exiting.

OpeningCeremony SS2014-Collection

The collection was, of course, ultra-cool, coming from designer duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim (who are also the masterminds behind Kenzo’s success) and inspired by street-racing with layers, buckles, visible zippers, and parachute-like shapes.

Carol Lim Opening Ceremony with Sandra Bauknecht

I had the honour to go backstage before the show and to meet Carol Lim in person.

Backstage Opening Ceremony SS2014

Tom Pecheux Sandra Bauknecht Together at OC

Another amazing highlight was the interview with Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director for Estée Lauder, who was in charge for the runway show’s makeup look.

I love Tom, he is so sweet with his very charming French accent. It is always a pleasure talking to him and listening to his beauty secrets. I had interviewed him already two years ago (For the previous post, please click here).

estée Lauder OOpening Ceremony

Estée Lauder and Opening Ceremony have teamed up to dress Estée Lauder’s beauty advisors around the globe. Please tell me a little more about it.

It was a big challenge. You need to create clothes for different countries, different characters, bodies, you have to be able to wash and dry them easily, best without ironing, so you have to find the right material. Makeup should be like that, too.

What do you hope that stands out the next season?

Beauty and indivisuality. The makeup is not about looking good is about feeling good. My job is to bring a proposal, like every fashion brand does. Afterwards you will have to decide if you like to embrace it. I don’t like to dictate a rule.

Tom Pecheux Massage Backstage

Is there a special reason why you give a kind of massage to the models in the beginning?

The models are working very hard, much harder than we do. They need a little bit of love, it is a great way to connect, to relax. You do a better job if the person on the chair feels good. When you do a massage, you relax all the muscles, you activate the blood circulation. By performing the massage, in terms of skin quality, you get a much better result. The makeup stays longer, the complexion looks more radiant.

Models Opening Ceremony SS2014 finished makeup

The cheeks for your look seem very contoured?

Yes, because the young girls with their baby cheeks love to have a little bit of contour.

Do you have a favourite product right now?

Every day is different, every model and skin texture is different. A good concealer, a nude lipstick, a white and black eye pencil are among my essentials.

Do you think the red lips will stand out the next season?

The red lips will always be in. Orange will go, red will stay. It is pure femininity.

Personally speaking, what are you doing to find always new inspirations?

I work with talented people. I have been working for three decades and I am terribly afraid to work by myself. I love to meet new people, like Humberto and Carol, Derek Lam, all such creative people. The sharing is the most important thing.

At the Tibi S/S 2014 Show

Tibi S:S 2014

Right after I had arrived in NYC on Saturday, I went to Pier 59 to go backstage before the Tibi S/S 2014 show and to interview Amy Smilovic. The charming designer has brought her label in a very short amount of time to success and told me a little about her inspiration and how she manages daily life as a working mum of two sons.

Tibi Backstage SS2014-2

Sandra Bauknecht - Amy Smilovic-Tibi

What was your inspiration for S/S 2014?

It is travel-inspired, from Asia to Arizona. It is really about the grit and the work that goes into getting there and the beauty once you arrive. That was grounding the collection for me because I love beautiful things but you need to be able to wear them in daily life on the street. It is important for me that the collection is cool and clean but still feminine.

After your amazing very successful last collection, do you feel pressure to reinvent and top yourself?

Always. It is a good challenge. I would rather feel the pressure to reinvent myself than staying the same.

How do you manage in daily life being a business woman and mother of two?

Just do it! My sons are were important to me. Being a mum keeps me balanced, I don’t freak out about tiny details. The kids help me keep perspective.

Amy Smilovic being interviewed by Sandra Bauknecht

Your secret to success?

I surround myself with really good people.

Do you have an icon? Which women would you like to wear your designs?

No, I don’t have an icon. It is a mix of strong women, such as Charlotte Rampling, Patti Smith and Kate Bosworth. I want really confident woman to wear my clothes.

Get the look-Tibi

Speaking of which, as I am a huge fan of the brand, I was of course wearing a Tibi dress combined with my leather biker jacket, pointed leather Mary-Jane pumps, both by Saint Laurent and the Bamboo shopper leather tote iconby Gucci.

Tibi Backstage Nails and Makeup

I have truly loved the nail design created by Jin Soon Choi. Inspired by the collection’s travel theme, Jin came up with a manicure that expresses a virtual language developed by American travelers who lived a nomadic life in the 1920s.

These signs were used to help fellow travelers navigate; the vertical/ horizontal lines on the nails are an extraction  from the traveler symbol “all right”.

Interview with Nicole Kidman and Her Look

Nicole_Kidman_omega_Interview

Last Sunday, Nicole Kidman came to the Omega press conference for the launch of the new Ladymatic watches, held at the Postsparkasse, in an ultra chic off-white skirt suit from Nina Ricci‘s Pre-fall 2013 collection (In stores around June 2013). The white long-sleeve jacket comes with structured shoulders and metallic button detailing that she teamed with the matching pencil skirt. Nicole complemented the look with a pair of elaphe, metallic and patent-leather sandalsicon by Nicholas Kirkwood that are available now by clicking on the highlighted text and of course a new Ladymatic watch by Omega in bi-colour.

Nicole_Kidman_PK_omega_ladymatic-302

The stunning strawberry blonde actress talked very openly about her marriage, her different ways of becoming a mother and what time means to her. Enjoy this interview and of course all those photos I took of her!

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_4

What was your first watch? And are you punctual?

My first watch because of my generation was a Swatch watch; I’ve moved up. I started working when I was 14 and punctuality is something that’s really important to me in terms of when I’m on set. I like to have my own watch on – I don’t want to be asking other people what time it is. Working in the film industry as a child, you learn to be on time. I was taught a very strong work ethic that included punctuality, which I’ve always felt is a sign of respect for others.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_6

What does a woman’s choice of watch say about her?

I suppose it’s the equivalent to shoes and bags in a way. You can be funky; you can be quirky, or you can be very straight down the line – in terms of the watch and the band as well. It’s interesting and I think now it’s a very important fashion accessory. I enjoy it. And I enjoy that it does allow you to map out your day in terms of time. So it’s practical but it’s also very beautiful. And I also like that you can go underwater with it.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_101

Before you leave for a red carpet event, do your husband and daughters weigh in on what you’ve worn – and have you ever changed your mind about what you’re wearing based on their input?

I tend to solicit the opinions of all three of them even though one of them is only two. I’ve actually changed when my husband said something’s not great. A lot of times, I look in the mirror and see something different. He likes natural and he likes something that’s “not so ‘done’ ”, which I would say speaks for a lot of men. I’ve definitely changed my style since I’ve been with him as well.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_102

There are a lot of watch brands out there and I wanted to ask why you decided to represent OMEGA as brand ambassador?

Eight years ago, when they approached me I was really honoured. I was thinking about what a great company they are. To be with a company for eight years is a big part of my life in a way. They’re amazing to work for and as you would all know, they take very good care of you. They’re also philanthropic and have been incredibly supportive of a lot of the work I do with UN Women. They’ve always reached out for that and tried to help with that, which is amazing. I’m actually very grateful.

Nowadays, people work so hard that they don’t have time to do other things. Do you think that having control over your own time is a kind of luxury in modern life?

I think that particularly as you get older, time is the most precious thing. You can’t buy it; you can’t get it back so how you spend it in terms of your life – that becomes the most important thing. I have a certain amount of control. I have young children so I’m very aware of how I allocate my time in terms of films and work. Time’s getting less and less, you know? Hopefully I’ll be sitting here at ninety talking to you but you never know. As you get older, particularly if you have parents who are aging, mortality becomes such an important part of our conversation and therefore, the choices that you make. Particularly, what I’m doing now is allocating time to travel to see my parents. All of those things that in my twenties wouldn’t have been so important have now become incredibly important. It’s a very strange thing to discuss time on a sort of a philosophical level, but I do love discussing how time is either nothing or everything.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_104

As you mentioned, it’s all about timekeeping and time saving. What’s your favourite waste of time?

Daydreaming. I’m still a huge believer in daydreaming. I love lying around with no book or anything – just having my mind. I used to do it as a kid and I still do it. When I do, it’s when I come up with ideas. It’s creative time and it’s something I try to create for my children. We tend to schedule so much for our children and I try not to do that. So much of your creative life comes from lying around in your bedroom, or in the backyard or on your back in the pool looking up at the sky. Those times as a child are so important. I remember them vividly. And probably as an adult, they are still times that I would rate as the great moments in my life. I remember I used to lie on the grass and dream of being an astronaut. That didn’t happen.

What facets of Ladymatic are reflected in your own personality? Also, you mentioned last night that your daughter Sunday wanted an OMEGA . . .

She just wants a watch. She wants any watch. She has this obsession of wanting a watch, which, as a four-year-old, is fascinating. It represents being a grownup. I just love the Ladymatic because people notice it and they go, “Wow”. I haven’t experienced that before. I think men comment on each other’s watches a lot but I think women don’t notice as much. But with this watch, I’ve had so many people comment; and I just recently bought one for my sister. Her husband said to me, “You’ve done me in.” He didn’t know how to match it somehow. I think the impact of the watch is pretty extraordinary. It’s gorgeous.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_109

Time is not always kind to women working in Hollywood. You said once that after the Grace Kelly, that was it. But you told us yesterday that you are currently filming in London so nothing is stopping you right now?

When I had Sunday, I took a long time off my schedule. And it was my mother and my husband who said not to give up my career. I was in a place of contentment. I kind of thought I don’t need to keep doing this. My mom, who is a huge driving force in my life, and my husband both said, “You still have things inside you. You should still pursue them or in the next few decades you’re going to wish you had maintained it.” Not to the degree that I used to do it because that takes an enormous amount of commitment, but I knew I could do the occasional thing. And then “Grace” came along which was an opportunity to work with Olivier Dahan and be able to go to France and spend a long time there, which was fantastic. And then to go to England – I’ve spent pretty much the last year in Europe and that’s been wonderful. I’m doing work but it also allows my children to constantly broaden themselves because they’re travelling and seeing a lot of the world. And I’m glad I didn’t completely abandon it and I’m trying to balance, which is what I used to not be able to do. I was far more of an extremist and right now I’m trying to keep a lot more balance in my life. I don’t think I said I was going to give it up after Grace . . . I think I told Lars von Trier that I was going to give up filming when I was forty but he texted me and said, “Hmm. You’re still working.”

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_201

In your career, you have played many different and complex roles, often as mothers. How has your vision changed as a woman and as a mother. Do you think that in ancient and modern times, being only a mother might be not enough to reach happiness?

Oh, these are big questions. I think it’s different for every woman – what fulfils you and what fulfils you in terms of what you want to achieve and the purposes in life. I would never assume any position except in relation to myself. I never thought I would get to experience motherhood in terms of giving birth to a child. I’ve experienced many different types of how to become a mother because I have adopted children, and I have a birth child and a child through a surrogate and the greatest joys to me have come from my children. About six years ago, I moved to Nashville and I thought, “I think I’m done now” in terms of my career and I thought “that’s it for me”.  My mother said I don’t think you should be done right now; I actually think you should keep a toe in the water and not give up your work, your creative life. She said, “As a woman, I wish I’d done more with my life in terms of my career and I’m encouraging you not to abandon it. And that was fantastic advice that probably only a mother could give. And now I’m far more balanced; I was far more extreme when I was in my twenties. I have a more balanced life and there’s definitely a lot more happiness and joy because of it. The greatest joy for me is from the simplest things, which come from daydreaming, spending time with my family and also then being able to delve into the psyches of different characters and work with extraordinary people. That’s the great thing about being an actor – you do have access to some of the greatest minds in the world. And therefore, your horizons are opened. Part of my quest is to live a well examined life. I’m very grateful that I was given the advice of keeping my toe in the water in terms of my career.

You and Keith have been married for nearly 7 years. Can you tell me how you intend to celebrate? I’ve read reports that you’re going to renew your wedding vows.

My mother called me and asked “Are you renewing your vows?” and I said no so . . . I don’t know where it came from.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK-200

What does marriage mean to you now with a distance of seven years?

I’ve always wanted a partner in life – that’s just who I am. I’m not a loner. I like to have my partner to go through life with and I’ve been very fortunate to find him. It doesn’t matter how we celebrate it; I just don’t take any date for granted in a relationship. I think that’s the greatest advice you can be given – that as much as you say you’re married, you can never take it for granted. It’s something you work at and it’s something that you constantly create. I try to stay in a humble part. I’ll do everything I can to make it last but sometimes I’m humbled by it that I’ve actually found it.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_110

We had this wonderful event last night. For what reason did you leave the event early?

So I could be here to work! You have to understand that I usually go to bed at 21:30. That was a really great night for me! To leave something early? To be honest, I don’t go to many parties. I prefer being at home I prefer to have people over. I’m not a good cook. I like somebody coming over and cooking because I’m not real good at it. I’m really good at enjoying the food. I suppose like the home life. I like entertaining in my home. I’m not so much of a party person even though I used to like going to clubs when I was younger.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_111

Have you found yourself drawn into what’s under the bonnet of the watch? Do women start to appreciate as much what’s inside the case as they do the beauty on the outside?

I do think women now comment on each other’s watches more and I think there’s a greater appreciation for watches; it was more of a male thing. Now, I do think there’s an interest in watches for women and there certainly is for me. I have a particular interest in vintage watches and OMEGA has an incredible collection of them which I’ve been allowed to wear every now and then. I find them exquisite, particularly when they’re built into the jewellery. Ever since I was little and I started collecting vintage jewellery, I always looked at watches. My mother’s first piece of jewellery that was passed on to me was my grandfather’s pocket watch. So it’s quite a part of my life.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_105

I have two questions: if Ladymatic is a Lady, how would you describe this lady? In all the roles you have played, which would you associate with Ladymatic? Grace Kelly? Your characters in Australia or Eyes Wide Shut?

I suppose if I had to use words to describe Ladymatic as a woman, it would be smart, elegant, and easy-going. The film probably be Grace. That’s hard to say – if you say “Eyes Wide Shut”, I don’t know if she would have had a Ladymatic but she certainly would have had an OMEGA watch.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_107

What kind of movie are you making in London?

It’s called Before I go to Sleep, an English thriller. It’s with Colin Firth. I haven’t made a thriller for a while; it’s a really strong script. I just finished playing Grace Kelly so I’ve spent an enormous amount of time in Europe in the last year which has been fantastic because I used to live here. Ten years ago, I was basically based in Europe and most of my films were European-based. And then I went back to the states met husband and had children. So to be back in Europe now for a long period of time feels like coming back in a way so it’s nice to be here and I’ve really enjoyed it and hopefully I’ll be able to spend some more time here.

Nicole_Kidman_Omega_PK_Ladymatic-300

Is there anything else you’d like to do in Vienna?

I wish I could have looked around more. I love flea markets and would love to have gone to the Easter market. I have to get back to London because I have to be at work punctually at 6 a.m. on Monday morning.

Thank you, Nicole!

Montblanc “Signature For Good” 2013

Yesterday, the day before the Oscars, I attended the Montblanc Charity Brunch at the iconic Bel-Air HotelDuring the event the German house’s “Signature For Good” 2013 collection was presented which aims to raise at least $1.5 million dollars to support UNICEF education programmes worldwide.

Hilary_Swank_Sandra_bauknechtHilary Swank with me yesterday

Two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank was the star guest among many celebrities who arrived on the red carpet. To support this good cause, the brunette actress joined the project and travelled to Ethiopia. Here are some impressions she shared during yesterday’s interview.

MDL_MONTBLANCETHIOPIA082

What can you share about Montblanc and UNICEFʼs partnership?

What struck me about Montblancʼs relationship with UNICEF was this shared belief in the importance of quality education for all children, regardless of their situation and location. Seeing in person how Montblanc is so committed to this issue in Ethiopia and how UNICEFʼs programmes are making a difference was also very touching to me, knowing that this commitment is not short term. They have been working closely with the organization for nearly a decade and committed to do doing so in the long-term because when it comes to this kind of work, it is the only way you can really make an impact and end the cycle of poverty.

MDL_MONTBLANCETHIOPIA247

What will your most enduring memory from this visit be?

I will always remember the enthusiasm and warmth of the children but also the determination and dedication of the UNICEF staff on the ground. One special memory is the children who were part of the Gender Club, an educational group that promotes 4 gender equality for boys and girls, showing them what to do if they have been abused, violated in any way and what their rights are. It empowers these kids to figure out how to get to school, find the closest water well. Itʼs all about putting their minds together to find solutions to their every day challenges. It is inspiring to me, to see young people helping out with these programmes, striving to only to improve their own situation, but helping others around them enjoy better lives. These kids were so special to me, and I will carry their spirits and their smiles in my heart forever.

Writing by hand seems to be less and less common in the developed world, do you every worry about it?

Our society relies far too much on emails, text messages and other forms of digital communication, yet the written word can be so much more meaningful. Because handwriting is unique and personal to each and every one of us, it adds a special touch to the messages we share. Montblanc does a wonderful job at reminding us what a unique experience writing by hand can be, particularly if you have the right instrument to shape your thoughts and emotions with. Call me old-fashioned, but I love to receive a handwritten note from a friend or loved one.

To ensure all children have access to a proper education to learn how to read and to write is such a great cause worth supporting. Since 2004, Montblanc has raised over $5 million dollars for UNICEFʼs education programmes worldwide. Thumbs up!
