Hermès Arceau Pocket Aaaaargh! Watch

The Arceau watch, created by Henri d’Origny in 1978, lends its classic yet distinctive round shape – with its asymmetrical stirrup-inspired lugs – to infinite expressions of Hermès creativity, style and expertise. Its timeless white gold silhouette stages an alliance between leather craftsmanship and Haute Horlogerie in a one-of-a-kind pocket watch. Beating to the rhythm of the Manufacture H1924 minute-repeater and tourbillon movement, the Arceau Pocket Aaaaargh! frames a refined white enamel dial, protected by a cover adorned with a tyrannosaurus composed of marquetry and leather mosaic.

After the gruff bear of the Slim of Hermes Grrrrr! and the wolf howling in the moonlight of the Arceau Awooooo, the Arceau Pocket Aaaaaargh! watch is joining the bestiary imagined by English artist Alice Shirley. On this model, the «king of the tyrant lizards» with half-open jaws and an attentive eye comes to life under the expert guidance of Hermès watchmakers, after a month of meticulous work using exclusive techniques developed in its leather workshops.

The design of the tyrannosaurus, which appears to be peeking through a porthole, stands out against the cover and involves a combination of several demanding skills. The head and scales are made in leather mosaic: thousands of finely hand-cut multicoloured leather fragments are applied one by one to faithfully reproduce the original pattern. The domed eye of the dinosaur, visible on both sides of the cover, is made of cabochoncut Grand Feu enamel.

Finally, the jaw and tongue are crafted in leather marquetry: fine tesserae are cut from various coloured leathers, previously thinned to just 0.5 mm, before being juxtaposed on the enamel base. Setting the final touch to this miniaturised leather artwork, a matt green alligator leather cord-strap is secured to the rectangular stirrup and accentuates the overall design.

Louis Vuitton Artycapucines Collection

After last year’s first collection of six Capucines bags created by contemporary artists, Louis Vuitton unveiled a new edition of its Artycapucines project.

Beatriz Milhazes, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Josh Smith, Henry Taylor, Liu Wei and Zhao Zhao have all created beautifully imagined and stunningly worked versions of the iconic Capucines bag.

From the 30th October, each bag in the Artycapucines collection will be released in a limited edition of 200 in selected stores worldwide. Price per bag: CHF 7900.

Louis Vuitton Capucines by Beatriz Milhazes
Based upon a new work created by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes for the Artycapucines project, Milhazes’ bag is a technical and artisanal achievement. 18 different types of leather are worked to the same thickness and then inlaid onto the bag’s lambskin base using innovative and novel marquetry techniques. To complete the kaleidoscopic variety of the different textures and aspects, the bag also has two areas of gold leaf and an inlaid, injected silicone gel peace sign. The LV logo uses enamel marquetry and gel to match the exact colours of the design over which it is placed.

Louis Vuitton Capucines by Jean-Michel Othoniel
Jean-Michel Othoniel’s Artycapucines is a graceful and joyous object. The bag’s main body is intricately hand-woven in raffia, while along the top edge of the bag is a hand-embroidered trim that uses a type of black satin silk more generally used in haute couture. The bag’s handle is made of large black resin beads that echo the French artist’s best-known large-scale works, such as his Le Kiosque des Noctambules Palais Royal Métro entrance in Paris. The bag is completed by a striking charm whose three resin beads act as an exclusive and portable Othoniel sculpture.

Louis Vuitton Capucines by Josh Smith
New York-based artist Josh Smith’s design is based upon one of his signature «name» paintings. To recreate the work, the bag’s cotton canvas exterior is first embroidered with white-coloured stitches to replicate brushstrokes, creating a sensation of depth. The fabric and stitches are then painstakingly printed, before the letters of Smith’s name are embroidered across the entire bag. The LV signature is in metal inlaid with wood, while the handle is made of pure pear wood. Its silk inner lining is printed with Palm #3, another of Smith’s striking and brightly coloured paintings.

Louis Vuitton Capucines by Henry Taylor
Henry Taylor’s Artycapucines brings together the Californian artist’s striking and expressive 2017 portrait A young master – a portrait of the late Noah Davis, the Black American artist and founder of LA’s Underground Museum – with the latest cutting-edge laser printing and traditional marquetry. Reproducing the painting on leather to replicate its original brushstrokes and varied textures required over 100 experiments to test different methods of 2D and 3D printing. The bag’s taupe Taurillon leather background was then used as a «blank canvas» into which this tactile portrait on leather was inserted using precise and demanding marquetry techniques. The result is a portrait that is also a remarkable sculptural bas-relief.

Louis Vuitton Capucines by Liu Wei
Beijing-based artist Liu Wei is renowned for provocative, unclassifiable work that jumps between media. His Artycapucines is based upon Microworld, a large-scale sculptural installation shown at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Variously sized aluminium petals from this sculpture are recreated for the bag using five different types of silver-coloured leather that are meticulously thermo-moulded and inserted directly into the bag’s exterior or attached using Louis Vuitton-engraved rivets. The bag’s handle is made in black Plexiglas, which brings a retro-futuristic touch, and is held in place by rings covered in metal spheres, each individually attached and with a different finish to match those in the original artwork.

Louis Vuitton Capucines by Zhao Zhao
Chinese artist Zhao Zhao’s Artycapucines is based on his 2018 sculpture, In Extremis No.3. For his bag, the artwork’s metal components are transformed into 353 individual laser-cut patches made of 5 different types of leather, which are either hand-embroidered, machine-embroidered, printed – with seven different patterns – or worked into relief. They are then assembled and meticulously sewn together into a single panel that follows the precise design layout that Zhao created. The resulting pattern covers the entire surface of the finished bag to create the impression that the original work has been moulded to fit precisely around the Capucines.

Aren’t they all very special! I love when fashion meets art…

CHANEL’s Collector Box

More CHANEL to drool over. I am so in love with its Paris – 31 rue Cambon Métiers d’Art 2020 quilted gift box with 4 iconic mini bags.

Despite the high price of CHF 26250 per box, it won’t stop fashionistas around the world to add it to their collection. Personally speaking, it will be a great investment because those four mini iconic bags are smaller than the smallest bag of their line which makes them absolutely unique.

The four objects of desire included are: a Boy Bag, a Classic Bag, a Gabrielle Bag and the 2.55 Bag. All true gems of the Maison that will never go out of style. On top, the big box in diamond quilting is also one of a kind and I am convinced that the price for the collector box will skyrocket in the future. An investment you will never regret.

It is available in two versions, in black or pink/red shades. The Zurich store has a set in black… just saying!

Hublot Big Bang Camo Yohji Yamamoto

THE BIG BANG DRESSED IN CAMOUFLAGE

For 50 years, Yohji Yamamoto has been offering a timeless style that transcends established notions. Like the monochrome featured on the Big Bang GMT All Black Yohji Yamamoto, Yohji Yamamoto’s iconic textiles and daring approach to motifs set the tone for the Big Bang Camo Yohji Yamamoto.

In May 2020, Hublot celebrated the grand opening of its new flagship Boutique on Chuo-dori Street in Ginza, Tokyo with this limited edition Big Bang GMT All Black Yohji Yamamoto.

Launching this month: a camouflage timepiece with a gritty vibe, as though deciphering a code that exists between paradox and homage, the new Big Bang Camo Yohji Yamamoto.

«I am powerfully drawn to a cutting-edge approach, in the sense that it expresses a point of view that is slightly removed from traditional values. Each collection incorporates a message about what I am feeling right now. It is a way to invite people to question what is already there, which is something I value greatly. »
Yohji Yamamoto – Fashion Designer

The Big Bang Camo Yohji Yamamoto is released as a limited edition of 200 pieces. Its 45 mm case is cut from matt black ceramic and its sapphire dial features superimposed outlines which form biomorphic patches in an echo of the artist’s camouflage motif, with his signature at 6 o’clock. The original construction of the camouflage motif extends onto the strap where each of the constituent shapes of the outline is cut out individually, assembled, and then fused together using the vulcanisation process. This is brand new technology for the watchmaking sector, reinforcing Hublot’s position as the first brand to use vulcanisation in the creation of its straps. The second strap is a black fabric option. The Big Bang Camo Yohji Yamamoto houses the Unico manufacture movement, with a 72-hour power reserve.

Yohji Yamamoto

The Yohji Yamamoto signature
Tagged as anti-fashion, Yohji Yamamoto’s creations are designed to raise questions, and all his collections contain this message. A master of contradiction and antagonism, Yohji Yamamoto sees the camouflage motif as the epitome of paradox, present and future clashing strikingly or blending seamlessly. As well as the initial message delivered by the camouflage print, he is reclaiming the values behind the clothes. The values of a rebellious spirit, a strong will, and cutting-edge individuality.

Decoding
An intellectual rebel at heart, designer Yohji Yamamoto has revolutionized fashion and design. Fabrics woven by artisans in Japan, mostly in black, which Yamamoto deems both modest and arrogant, are an important part of the garment making process. This camouflage print harks back to his previous work wear collection and highlights the fact that the act of choosing our clothing is an expression of our role and recognition in society. The use of this textile is a statement of respect for the artisans and contains a message about the value and preservation of the beautiful work performed by the hands and the body.

At the peak of the pandemic, school closures to contain its spread interrupted the education of more than 1.5 billion children and youth – 90% of the world’s students – disproportionately impacting girls and women, for whom education is often a lifeline.

Prada will donate its proceeds raised in this auction to specifically benefit UNESCO’s new campaign entitled Keeping girls in the picture and their Global Education Coalition’s Gender Flagship, which has been leading collaborative efforts to promote the continuity of learning during closures and ensure a safe return to school for all women everywhere.

An equestrian statue and a representation of the Greek Titan Atlas designed by Rem Koolhaas formed the centrepieces of the Men’s and Women’s shows respectively, and will now appear as highlights of the auction.
