Almost thirty years ago, a nostalgic Bally sneaker quite accidentally became a legendary phenomenon upon the urban American hip hop scene.
Originally launched in 1991 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Federation, the Bally Animals unexpectedly became a status symbol of the growing US hip hop movement and in particular, the youth culture of New Orleans.
Long before rappers were calling out sneaker brands, Slick Rick wore a pair of bright red Bally kicks on the cover of his debut album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.
Bally’s street style presence had been underlying since the early 1980s with Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick advocating and wearing the brand but the Animals further developed this cult following; worn as a representative status symbol and adored by urban musicians and trend pioneers.
To celebrate its Swiss heritage and continued recognition of the brands mountain roots, Bally has reissued the sneakers alongside a selection of socks, launching in Switzerland this summer.
The collection consists of two replica Animal sneakers in selected derivations of blue, red and black with the familiar cow print procession along the sole and is available exclusively at Bally’s Zurich and Lucerne stores.
Happy Swiss National Day!

Chunky sneakers are trending as never before – that is a fact! But over the past couple of months, you may have noticed the term «dad sneaker»all over. If you follow the fashion world, you’ll be well aware what this is. However some of you may still be in the dark, therefore I am about to inform you with this post. Meet the most important version: Balenciaga’s sneakers «Triple S» are the epitome of dad shoes that are sold out everywhere (still popping up from time to time).

Those sneakers perfectly capture the street-style look of the moment. The toe is embroidered with the size of the shoe, while the side has the brand name embroidered for recognition.

How did the «Triple S» got its name?
Taken from running, basketball and track shoes, molds were stacked to create the silhouette of this heavily padded, triple-soled design. The name «Triple S» comes from its three layers of soles. The shoe was originally presented at the Balenciaga men’s F/W 2017 show by artistic director Demna Gvasalia in Paris.

The ugly sneaker trend is everywhere right now, and available at all price points. And now it looks like it’s even more trending as one of the world’s most influential fashion designers, Nicolas Ghesquière, put a ton of futuristic runners on his S/S 2018 runway for Louis Vuitton. Consider the so-called LV Archlight Sneakers one of high-fashion’s biggest style musts this season.

The «ugly-chic» footwear aka pool slide trend is major this S/S 2018 season. I have to admit that I haven’t arrived there yet… I mean I am talking about the plastic slip-ons first made popular by Adidas (in German we called them «Adiletten» and they were a no-go) that are now popular like hell. This season almost every designer has given them an upgrade from embellishments to crystals, from mink to feathers, just get your wallet ready!

For S/S 2018, Miuccia Prada collaborated with eight female illustrators who depict women in their own way for a collection inspired by comics that I absolutely adore!
Besides the must-have bags and clothes, the designer launches new must-have sneakers for women that will be available at selected Prada stores from end of February 2018. I LOVE!

Who would have thought that the ugly shoe trend will be so successful over several seasons that it will be reaching its peak for S/S 2018. While Christopher Kane was the first designer to collaborate with Crocs for S/S 2017 – Balenciaga is taking the ubiquitous gardening shoe to new heights this season.
Christopher Kane S/S 2018
If you have kids, you have been there and surely decorated the iconic rubber shoes with princesses or or other little gadgets. For S/S 2018, Christopher Kane wants to prove his love for Crocs again and re-upped his own commitment by making shoes out of the rubbery material and adorning them with Swarovski crystal embellishments.
Balenciaga S/S 2018
For Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia made a Croc version definitely a standout one with a 10 cm foam platform that is branded with Demna’s newly redesigned Balenciaga logo. But will this design change the world’s problem with Crocs? As he said at Vogue’s Forces of Fashion conference, “I think it’s very interesting, the definition of ugly. I think it’s also very interesting to find this line where ugly becomes beautiful or where beautiful becomes ugly. That’s a challenge I like. I think that’s a part of what fashion stands for and I like that people think my clothes are ugly; I think it’s a compliment.”
Balenciaga S/S 2018 Runway
Do both designers, Kane and Gvasalia, just hate feet? Or did they legit think that glitter and a gigantic platform take the prize. I mean, all of these shoes are probably comfortable to wear, but when it comes to looks, you have to admit they hardly have the refined elegance of a pair of high heels. Anyway, I am sure that I will go for them in the end… or not, we’ll see! If I buy them, I will definitely get a nasty bashing from my daughter who had to convince me over months many years ago to get her a pair of Crocs… haha, and now Mummy is considering them. How twisted it this?

It’s my intention to astonish you all… and do you know how? By changing my heels into a pair of fantastic sneakers! One of the best trends ever…
Prada‘s white textile Cloudbust trainers feel wholly futuristic (also available in black). The low-top silhouette features a round toe and split sole alongside slender crossover straps, and is detailed with grey, black, white, and pale rose inserts for a clean yet modern finish. I contrasted them against a tailored feather-trimmed dress from the F/W 2017 collection for an on-brand finish last night at the Prada Zurich‘s Christmas cocktail.
My look: Soft pink mink coat with flower intarsia and black satin bag with floral embellishments (both from the S/S 2013 collection), feather-trimmed printed wool and silk-blend dress, earrings, and Cloudbust low-top mesh trainers, all by Prada.
