Happy Valentine`s Day

Valentinesday2010

With lots of love from me for Valentine`s Day I styled some beautiful looks for you. Light pastels are everywhere this summer. Romanticism seeks for special attention. Especially nude and pale pink are among the favourite shades. Hairbands, ruffles, frills, lace and pearls would be a good way to finish your soft and glowing appearance. But it is not all about sweetness, it is more about a sugar-coated glamour that speaks the language of feminine sexuality.

Unveil the new pretty and the love will be all yours! Happy Valentine`s Day!

Miu Miu`s S/S 2010 Advertising Campaign

MiuMiu_ADV SS10_I
MiuMiu_ADV SS10_II

Have a look at Miu Miu`s new S/S 2010 advertising campaign shot in London by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. I love this fine line between the childlike and the womanly that is also evoked by the collection itself.

MiuMiu-SS2010

On the one hand sheer, body-conscious, even naked looks and on the other hand romantic, young aspects created by crystal embroideries and graphic prints with little dogs, cats, swallows and flowers. The accessories are extremely beautiful, to me the platform shoes in particular.

MiuMIU_SS2010-2

The American model Lindsey Wixon was the perfect choice for the advertising campaign. She has that perfect combination of power and vulnerability. The sixteen-year-old was rejected by several casting directors before signing the contract with Marilyn. The agency had a good eye. After the opening slot at the Prada show in Milan and the presentation of the last look on the Miu Miu runway in Paris, she has become the new shooting star. Her signature feature is her sweet very tiny mouth with incredibly full lips. We will see her in a lot of editorials in the near future.

For my Swiss readers, I recommend a visit to the new Miu Miu shops in Zurich and St. Moritz. Have fun exploring this beautiful collection!

Louis Vuitton’s It-Bag

Sunrise & Foxy

Here comes one of my favourite bags for summer: The orange “Monogram Denim Sunrise” (M93190) by Louis Vuitton. Spotted at their S/S 2010 runway show, featured in their advertising campaign with Lara Stone and just a little later seen at Victoria Beckham. It is always good to be friends with some famous fashion designers…

If you are not that connected, sign in on their waiting lists. Or just get your hands on the plushy fur tail and tassel charms named “Foxy”  that are sold separately in 3 different colours: orange, pink and green. They would be a gorgeous addition to your already existing bags.

New Generation

JonathanSaunders

Graphic patterns are a big trend for next summer, but the real news is digital manipulated prints.

A genius in creating those swirling effects is the Glaswegian designer Jonathan Saunders who since his graduation in 2002 from London`s Central Saint Martin`s college has been climbing up the ladder of success. Especially his resort 2010 collection (see above) that is available right now has a lot of those notice-me silk screening prints.

PeterPilotto

There is a new generation of designers that are using computer-generated patterns to achieve a new kind of futuristic look. Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou are among those rising stars.

MaryKatrantzou

My favourite is Greek-born designer Mary Katrantzou. Her surrealistic prints of perfume bottles on dresses (see below) were divine last winter. You should get one on sale at Browns. And like Coco Chanel said: „A woman who doesn`t wear perfume has no future“. I am sure this is nothing Mary has to worry about.

For my Swiss based readers: Trois Pommes will carry her beautiful summer collection.

Sandra Bullock at the Golden Globe Awards

Sandra Bullock Bottega Veneta

Yesterday, the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. A rare phenomenon was seen in California: Rain. But the weather couldn`t put a damper on Sandra Bullock`s stunning appearance in the amazing orchid chiffon evening gown by Bottega Veneta from their S/S 2010 runway collection. The dress had a wonderful, outstanding colour and the transparency was very up-to-date. The combination of the signature knot clutch by Bottega Veneta and the triple platform pumps by Casadei in purple suede leather with the extraordinary jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz (Her showroom in New York is located at 580 5th Avenue by 47th Street) was just perfect. Her hair was in a loose up-do that had a modernized 1930`s look with soft curls and waves.

The brunette was nominated in two categories and won the award for best actress (drama) for her role in “The Blind Side“. Many stars wore rainbow-coloured ribbons in memoriam of the Haiti earthquake but Sandra Bullock took it one step further and donated $1 million to the victims of this horrible disaster.

To me, she was definitely the best acdress last night!

Avatar Inspired Alexander McQueen S/S 2010

Avatar1

It is weekend time and I wanted to inspire you for a movie night out to see Avatar” in 3D directed by James Cameron. The science fiction epic blockbuster plays in the year 2154 on the distant planet of Pandora and seemed to be the inspiration for Alexander McQueen`s “Plato`s Atlantis” S/S 2010 collection.

Avatar2

The models on the catwalk looked so much like the Na`vi race in the movie. The colours green, brown and later on all shades of blue, the amazing digital prints and reptile patterns, all emerging from the sea were like the designer`s apocalyptic forecast.

Lady Gaga premiered her song “Bad Romance” at the show that was supposed to be live-streamed.  But the site crashed because of all the traffic that emerged after she had tweeted to her millions of fans about her newest release.

Avatar3

I could definitely not think of anyone better than her pulling off the techno and futuristic trends for next summer.  She strutted gorgeously in McQueen`s eccentric shoes (I love them!) that made the fashion world gasp when they appeared on the runway. Those towering platforms are a piece of art, deserving to be displayed. The legendary footwear gave the cybernetic look already a cult status.

Let`s capture the cobbled streets of Zurich in those heels- might be fun… at least for the ones watching us!

Far Western Chic

Modern Cowgirl

Far Western chic is a must for next summer. Seen on the S/S 2010 runways were pretty cowgirls, pioneers of the prairies, lumberjack`s girlfriends and a new sort of trappers.

Especially D&G made a superb collection of versatile western references. The silhouettes were made of looks reminding me of Brigitte Bardot and Jeanne Moreau in the movie Viva Maria” or Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayek in the remake “Bandidas”. Denim, suede and eyelet were used – definite key elements for next season. But also Amerindian inspirations like navajo prints, lucky charms, feathers and tassels appeared along with stetsons, bandanas and broad belts. The inspirations and designs were numerous, only lassos and spurs were missing.

Denim Bandidas

Lumberjack`s plaid shirts were transformed into cocktail dresses and denim was pervasive in all sort of styles. Faded, worn out, mended mixed with cut-out suede, a sexy look that creates immediate seduction.

Come on, cowgirls, let`s go west!

Trend S/S 2010: Body Art

Body Art

Have you always dreamt of getting a tattoo but would never dare to do it? Now is the time to experience how it would be.

Body Art is an upcoming trend this summer. Fake tattoos or draw-on markings are fun and last until your next shower.

After the ink painted arms Rodarte showed in New York, Jean-Paul Gaultier was next to send his models with gothic graffiti-style messages down the runway. Karl Lagerfeld, the master of trendsetting, had Peter Phillips (Chanel`s art director of make-up) design stencils in shapes of the signature chains, logos, birds, pearls and blossoms for the Chanel S/S 2010 show. Those dainty prints that were hand drawn on the models added that fierce twist to the romantic look.

If painting seems too difficult, try some fun tattoos to order. Start experimenting! Remember, the only limit is your own creativity!

Trend S/S 2010: Focus on Legs

Focus on the Legs

The focus is on legs for summer, tons of mini skirts and hot pants paraded down the runways. According to the remarkable decrease in the length of the hemlines, the lower part of the body seemed to become the main attraction for decoration. Tights, along with other types of legwear like leggings, legwarmers or socks, made a sizzling fashion statement.

As nylons had always been a no-go in sandals, the trend of the open toe booties posed a real dilemma to me this winter especially that I hate cold feet. I am always admiring the French journalists during the fashion weeks showing-up effortlessly bare-legged whatever the weather. So honestly, I am curious if French ladies are going to adapt to the new trend. They have that nonchalant way of looking elegantly stylish that I truly so adore.

Socks

Fact is that there were also many Parisian designers like John Galliano for Christian Dior or Jean-Paul Gaultier who sent their models in sandals combined with sweet little socks down the runway.

Stockings

The photos give you a taste of what is to come. Do not be shocked by those, they might show the look in an extreme way. Get inspired by those tendencies and interpret them in your very own way. Remove taboos and stimulate your spirits!

Tied Up

Plus if you do not have those perfectly tanned marvellous legs, tights will be the perfect alternative to go mini. I am totally in love with those laced-up ones below from the Chanel S/S 2010 show. Wolford has a similiar version for sale on their website at the moment. Enjoy this young look!

Accessory Report S/S 2010: Around the Clog

Clogs

Another trend originally imposed by Hippies in the 70s celebrates its come back in a very chic way: Clogs! So many different luxury versions were seen, in linen, printed canvas (Miu Miu) or more sophisticated in suede (Louis Vuitton), some even with a Japanese attitude in studded leather (Céline).

Karl Lagerfeld`s sample for Chanel with wooden high heels is an amazing modern take on the Dutch classics and my favourite as I adore the touch of Bavarian folly very much! I cannot wait to hear the sound of clogs tapping on the asphalt of the streets waking up early summer.
