For some of us, lilac has been associated with many things, but not for long a time has it been rendered chic. Probably you are reminded of the colour of your first eye shadow once applied liberally at school or it’s the colour of your grandmother’s favorite dress. It’s the shade that brides sometimes dress their bridesmaids in if they don’t really like them.

However, last winter it has already been seen all over the runways in head-to-toe looks and this S/S 2020 season it has become the must-have colour (forget classic blue) – I swear. Pastel or neon hues are all enjoying a newfound popularity, but none are more pervasive than lilac. An evolved, more adult take on millennial pink, the trick to making it looking modern rather than old-fashioned and saccharine is all in the shape and colour combinations. Leather culottes have been all the rage this S/S 2020 season. Cut from butter-smooth leather, these shorts are preferably shirred at the waist and kick out to wide cuffs. They hit just above the knee, so you can wear them with mules or boots alike. Thanks to Bottega Veneta‘s Daniel Lee who says he only wants to create clothes that will last a lifetime, we will surely enjoy those pieces for many years to come. Those shorts will age beautifully with you.

Yesterday, I left for an amazing press trip I had been really looking forward to since weeks. Being invited by Gucci for the launch of their limited edition fragrance GUCCI GUILTY STUD to Nevada is pretty cool, isn’t it?

The trip was long, I flew from Zurich via San Francisco to Las Vegas. During the flight, I watched (couldn’t have been a better attunement…) Last Vegas, a comedy about a wild bachelor party thrown by group of old friends (Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman and Robert de Niro). It is such a funny movie, imagine The Hangover as a geriatric edition.

Avid readers of my blog might recognize part of my look. It is one of my favorite outfits to wear on long-distance flights as I really like to be comfy.

Kate Moss in Balmain for Vogue UK 09-2010

Yesterday, I hit myself with the corner of a shopping bag into the eye and had to go to the hospital. At least I did it in style.
Today, I look like a cyborg and declare red as the colour of the day.

As a little treat, I think that I will spoil myself with a red leather piece. This hot F/W 2010 trend is going to stay for S/S 2011 with Balmain leading the way. For summer, there will be embellishments and extra studs. But those objects of desire have their price.

Two super pieces, available at the moment, and not totally overexpensive are Joseph’s red leather biker jacket and Isabel Marant’s cropped pants.
