Loewe x Mackintosh Capsule Collection

«Art is the flower… life the green leaf.» – Charles Rennie Mackintosh

This holiday season, LOEWE is launching a special capsule collection inspired by the work of renowned Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). Regarded as one of the originators of modernism, his seismic influence on the 20th century arts & crafts movement is still being felt to this day.

With a full accessories line and ready-to-wear for men and women, the holiday collection celebrates the vast scope of the designer’s work, from his architecture through to his furniture design. Playing with the various facets of the Mackintosh universe, LOEWE honours his distinctive aesthetic by incorporating his signature grid patterns, stained glass windows and botanical watercolours across the range.

When I was in Madrid mid November, I was happy to explore the collection in the brand’s flagship store in the Salamanca district before it is now hitting the shelves worldwide.

The CASA LOEWE is all about interior design and customer experience thanks to LOEWE‘s creative director Jonathan Anderson. The lifestyle store spans three floors (totaling over 10,760 square feet) of a landmarked 19th-century building.

To delve deeper into Mackintosh’s mind and genius, I invite you to look at this fascinating collection:

My Look: Contemporary Fashion

Last night, I was invited by JELMOLI to celebrate the opening of their contemporary fashion department on the second floor that features brands like Peter Pilotto, Jonathan Simkhai, Diane von Furstenberg, Rochas, Alexandre Vauthier and Koché among others.

The event was very unexpected and a real experience. Check-in began on the street in front of the department store (queue was shockingly long), then we boarded open-air buses and were driven to the underground delivery station below JELMOLI where the fashion show and party took place. A very successful and fun night.

Quick stop at the LA MER counter at JELMOLI before the event with a friend for a luxury treatment session that I can only recommend.

My look: Fringed printed cotton and silk-blend jersey dress by Loeweicon, embellished woven straw tote by Rosie Assoulinicon, ankle boots Kole by Chloé, bi-colour chain necklace by Prada, cuff by Stella McCartney, rose diamond ring by Piaget and faux-pearl tassel earrings by Oscar de la Renta.

My Look: Gingham

This summer, gingham has re-emerged and is having a big moment. It’s appearing everywhere ― on runways, red carpets and Instagram. Jonathan Anderson played with the idea of sculptural shapes for Loewe’s S/S 2018 runway and  this midi dress, which is one of my summer favorites, has a cutout waist and feminine gingham poplin panels that really stand out against the contrasting twill. By the way, you can also unbutton the dramatic ruffled shoulders for a simpler look which I haven’t done so far as I like the drama…

My look: Convertible cutout twill and gingham poplin dressicon, and Barcelona gingham mini bag, both by LoeweiconAgon embellished platform pumpsicon by Gucci and Eiffel tower pearl earrings by Chanel.

Loewe x Knot On My Planet

Today, I would like to show you a project that is very dear to my heart. One of my favorite animals on the planet are elephants. There are so many beautiful facts about this strong and beautiful creatures. Just like humans they can communicate through sight, smell, sound, and touch. They live in a strong family unit and the mothers are very protective of their babies, spending all day teaching and loving them. Being highly social animals, they meet every day and console each other in times of stress by «hugging». Elephants even mourn their dead.

They are highly intelligent and have a strong memory. If you do something bad to an elephant, he will always remember. One of the cutest facts is that baby elephants suck their trunks in the same way that human babies suck their thumbs. Unfortunately, elephants are highly endangered. Given all this evidence about the awesomeness and sensitivity of these animals, it’s obvious that taking them away from their families and locking them up is wrong, which is why we need to speak out for them when they are abused and exploited. Moreover killing them for ivory is just cruel.

When supermodel Doutzen Kroes visited Kenya, she fell in love with these animals. Coming back home, she was determined to make a difference and became the global ambassador of Knot On My Planet, a campaign to support the Elephant Crisis Fund.

To support this amazing campaign, LOEWE has joined forces with Knot On My Planet and its global ambassador Doutzen Kroes, to launch an exclusive limited edition version of its iconic ELEPHANT BAG (click here for a previous outfit post), that is featuring beadwork by the women of the Samburu Trust from Northern Kenya.

LOEWE will donate all proceeds of the sales to the Elephant Crisis Fund, helping to provide rapid, catalytic support for projects designed to stop the killing of elephants, thwart traffickers and end the demand of ivory.

Embellished with safety pins bursting with cascades of multicolor beads. Due to the handcrafted nature of the beadwork, each bag could vary, making every purchase unique and is exclusively available to buy on loewe.com.

So worth supporting! Bravo LOEWE and Doutzen!

Slide Into the New Season

The «ugly-chic» footwear aka pool slide trend is major this S/S 2018 season. I have to admit that I haven’t arrived there yet… I mean I am talking about the plastic slip-ons first made popular by Adidas (in German we called them «Adiletten» and they were a no-go) that are now popular like hell. This season almost every designer has given them an upgrade from embellishments to crystals, from mink to feathers, just get your wallet ready!
