My Look: Women in Power

At the moment, the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Swiss Alpine town of Davos welcomes its global elite with only 22% female participants attending the event. Female empowerment starts in daily life. If we as women all supported each other like men do, we would be so much more powerful. Today’s look is dedicated to three amazing women that I am very lucky to call my girlfriends and that inspire me on a daily basis.

Nadya Shah – Mimi Mollerus – Annette Zierer

The cape I am wearing is by London-based designer Nadya Shah, a Central St Martins graduate who brings Victorian embellishment into the now with her fabulous collection of statement outerwear. Trophy jackets or ultra stylish capes are her signature pieces that you can find at Moda Operandiicon for example.

The shopper is by Maison Mollerus in collaboration with the artist Super250. My friend Mimi Mollerus took over the family business, that her father Ernst founded 30 years ago, in 2011. Since then, she further developed the well established bag brand into a modern company.

Thanks to my friend Annette Zierer, who has her own PR company Zierer Communications in Munich, I discovered Giulia and Romeo, a young German shoe label that is vegan and ethical. With the purchase of their faux leather footwear, you automatically support animals in need as the brand donates the complete net proceeds to animal welfare organizations and animal aid projects.

My look: Paisley victorian cape by Nadya Shahdark blue ultra light cashmere turtleneck with personalized embroidery by Falconeri, high rise super skinny ankle length jeans by Abercrombie & Fitch, Vinerus lemon shopper by Super250 x Maison Mollerus, and high top trainers by Giulia and Romeo.

Make a friend happy. Isn’t a personalized sweater such a cool idea to surprise someone you like?!

Hermès Vintage by Heritage Auctions

Working out of French ateliers, HERMÈS has earned a reputation for using the finest leathers in the world—not to mention, each bag is crafted by the same pair of hands, from start to finish. In partnership with Heritage Auctions, MODA OPERANDIicon brings you a mix of classic and more contemporary shapes, as well as incredibly rare styles that prove there’s an HERMÈS bag to suit every woman. Think Birkins, Kellys, and more in pretty much every colour under the rainbow and every size produced.

Whether you are in mind to shop or browse, click HERE now to view the collection as styles are selling out. The prices are high, you see, those bags are an investment.
Below are my personal favorites:

Designed in the late 19th century, this was the precursor to the infamous Birkin. You won’t find a more fabulous weekender anywhere else: HERMÈS 40cm Lime Evercolor Leather And Toile Birkin HACicon.

If you are a Kelly girl, than this will be a must. The owl print dates back to 1990 and is a one-off, meaning only a few were ever produced: HERMÈS 20cm Rouge Vif Calf Box And Silk Kelly.

My personal favorite: a work of art, only the most skilled artisans are able to weave the delicate wicker (and Hermès no longer makes this size): HERMÈS 35cm Osier And Fauve Osier Wicker And Barenia Leather Kelly Picnic.

Tell your hubby you found an extremely savvy investment: pink in an exotic skin sells for the highest prices at auction: HERMÈS 28cm Rose Tyrien Ostrich Sellier Kelly.

Classic and absolutely beautiful in a vibrant colour: HERMÈS 35cm Blue Zanzibar Togo Leather Birkin.

The bags will ship within two weeks from order date.
Expected to ship Nov 16, 2018 – Dec 30, 2018.

Cult Gaia’s Ark Clutch

2017 has become the year of the basket tote with the rise of Los Angeles-based label Cult Gaia’s structural bamboo bag from pretty cool to Instagram-famous within weeks.

The so-called ‘Ark’ clutch is a crescent-shaped bamboo clutch that feels offbeat yet timeless. Designer Jasmin Larian draws inspiration from vintage pieces and is committed to sustainable practices. Don’t miss the laser-cut acrylic version of the carryall in vibrant hues.

I thought to let you know there are many fabulous variations of the Cult Gaia bag. It might be not the most practical bag, but it is still the hottest accessory of the moment and extremely affordable.

To all the strong women out there who have raised kids and dedicated their love and energy to their families, have a look at this fun FEMINIST COLLECTION by Del Toro that is exclusively available at MODA OPERANDI, for both women and children.

The Future Is Female Slipper

Fashion trends aside, 2017 is the year of the power woman. But don’t slip on your grey suit and shoulder pads – or burn your bra – just yet, go for fun feminist slogans (as seen on the DIOR tees), from “Pussy Power” to “Feminist AF.” Del Toro’s classic velvet loafers are a chic take on statement-making style.

Here are my favorites! I am off to get spoilt on Mother’s Day…

Del Toro – The Most Beautiful Flats

Del Toro - Beautiful Flats

Based in Miami, Del Toro was founded in 2005 by Italian-born Matthew Chevallard, and originally sought to fill a void in the marketplace for affordable customized slippers.

It didn’t take long for the brand to become successful and so the collection evolved to include new styles such as sneakers, drivers, and espadrilles among others. Handmade in Italy, my favorite choices are those amazing S/S 2014 flats that tell a whimsical story with every step.

THE DEL TORO S/S 2014 COLLECTION IS AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER HERE.

Elie Saab’s S/S 2013 collection is called Heiress. While the designer might draw inspiration from the aristocracy, his creations are anything but austere. In fact, his designs for the next season brim with vibrant shades: cobalt, raspberry, and teal. From colour-splashed dresses to potently hued suiting, this collection creates a compelling chromatic narrative for spring.

Moda Operandi

Moda Operandi

moda-operandi-logo-text-indexIt is fashion newest and definitely the most exclusive website for shopaholics. You can make your own buy of your runway favourites that will arrive in your closet in record time.
Heaven on earth for high-end shoppers that are always looking for those hard-to-get pieces and that are going to pay full price.

Aslaug Magnusdottir, former head of merchandizing at Gilt Noir (Gilt.com’s elite member group), founded the revolutionary new e-commerce site together with well-known Lauren Santo Domingo of Vogue.

Moda Operandi features collections from the likes of Alexander Wang, Vionnet, Proenza Schouler, Alberta Ferretti, just to name a few, for sale for a couple of days right after their runway shows. I think for a fashion addicted person like me it is just wonderful. You are not limited on what a department store’s buyers chose for their shop, you can choose from the entire collection yourself and very importantly, buy it in your size. No more wait lists!

How does it work? Moda Operandi has started last month with a small, exclusive database from their network of influencers and friends. The membership is very limited, you can apply for it by clicking here.
Members can place their order with a 50% deposit. You will receive your pieces once they are produced, which means approximately 6 months later.
Moda Operandi offers a very professional way of shopping. It might not be for everyone.
You have to know what is going on and without the help of fashion magazines decide what will be a must for the next season. If you are an avid reader of Sandra’s Closet, there is no need to worry. I will keep you ahead of the game right after the runway shows and you will exactly know what to get.

Anyway, I think it is very interesting to see how the fashion world is moving in two directions. On one side, you have those high-street chains like H&M and Zara that offer the latests trends on a tight budget. On the other side, there are the high-end fashion designers who get copied very fast and who are trying to come up with more exclusive new marketing ideas like Tom Ford who refrained from releasing any images of his runway collections. He has built a buzz until the collection would actually be in stores…

From one die-hard fashionista to another!

LoL, Sandra
