Karl Lagerfeld’s “Fire Etchings”

Yesterday, I drove from Zurich to St. Moritz to attend a very intimate event at Galerie Gmurzynska for the exhibition opening of a new unique work by Karl Lagerfeld, in a brand new medium: “FIRE ETCHINGS”; forming the artist’s answer to contemporary portraiture.

As I knew that Karl Lagerfeld would be present, there was no doubt, I had to be there. First, the invitation was supposed to be a dinner which was changed last minute into a brunch. The guests were waiting patiently for over three hours for Karl Lagerfeld’s plane to land. When he entered the room, his presence was unbelievable. He shook hands and talked to everyone.

A magic moment: Shaking hands with Karl Lagerfeld.

“FIRE ETCHINGS” is truly outstanding. On display was Karl Lagerfeld’s gigantic body of work created from backlit glass that has had its image etched into the surface. The “Kaiser” explained that a company near Nuernberg, Germany, which usually produces church windows manufactured his artwork for him.

Large scale and unique, for “FIRE ETCHINGS” Lagerfeld has abstracted some of his current muses: the rapper, Theophilus London; and the models, Freja Beha Erichsen and Aymeline Valade.

When Karl Lagerfeld was asked to explain his artwork a little, he replied with a quote by Voltaire: “Everything that needs an explanation is not worth the explanation.”

A Hairy Tale in St. Moritz

CA1

From mid-December 2011 to mid-January 2012, Switzerland’s famous hair stylist (of course mine as well) Charles Aellen Company had opened a pop-up hair salon in St. Moritz. He transformed the so-called Château Papillon des Arts, an old joinery behind the Kulm hotel, into a stylish and ueber-cool hair temple.

Even that it is closed now, I would like to share the stunning photos with you. Please keep in mind, this was only there for 4 weeks! For all interior aficionados, a feast for the eyes and Charles did it all by himself! For those of you who missed it, it will be open during the next Christmas season again.

LoL, Sandra

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year 2012 to all of you!
May it  be filled with love, peace and joy… and lots of shopping sprees!

I started the New Year 2012 very relaxed in St. Moritz. If you stay away from the hustle and bustle, you can allow yourself to enjoy quiet and relaxation! I have recharged my batteries and I am full of energy for many exciting things to come. Stay tuned as I will be leaving very soon to Italy again!

If I whetted your appetite for some serious Tom Ford shopping, have a look at the retailers list by clicking here. Good news is that a new Tom Ford boutique just has opened its doors in St. Moritz on the famous Via Serlas (see photo above).

Germany has got its first Tom Ford shop since last month in Munich. The 1400 square foot, two-story franchised flagship store is located at Falckenbergstrasse adjacent to Maximilianstrasse (see photos below).

My New Year’s Resolution for 2012: I want a “Ford Fiesta”!
With this in mind, Happy New Year!

Happy New Year 2011 from St. Moritz

St.Moritz

Happy New Year to you, my dear readers, may all your dreams and resolutions come true.

I started 2011 in St. Moritz, the glamorous place in the Alps that calls itself „the Top of the World“. The Swiss mountain village has been home to the jet set since many years, attracting celebrities, princesses and socialites from everywhere. When it comes to fashion, luxury is the keyword.

St.Moritz2

And speaking of glamour and over the top, the typical St. Moritz style means fur, fine jewelry, sequined dresses, lots of glitz and sparkles. In case that you forgot to pack something adequate, no worries. St. Moritz is a great place to shop with all big brands represented. So for somebody like me, who is not an avid skier there is enough entertainment program.

My St. Moritz look: Sequined dress by Balmain, sequined clutch with bow by Valentino, earrings by Prada and Tribtoo pumps by Yves Saint Laurent.

Sylvester Outfit 4K

Sylvester Outfit 2KLast night, I went to the traditional New Year’s Eve cocktail reception hosted by well-known publisher Jürg Marquard and his wife Raquel.
The party always takes place in their amazing apartment located in the tower of the famous Badrutt’s Palace hotel overlooking the lake of St. Moritz. Previous tenant until the early ninties was gentleman-playboy Gunter Sachs.
My German based readers might recognize some of the faces below… Enjoy all those photos of beautiful people in beautiful outfits!
That is St. Moritz!

To a wonderful 2011!
