In the ’90s, John Galliano gave the famous Union Jack a high fashion rehabilitation and in the beginning of the century, Vivienne Westwood’s interpretation of the red, white and blue became an icon for post-punk British creativity. The Union Jack of today has shed its skin of sneery Cool Britannia rebelliousness. Now, Gucci‘s Alessandro Michele shows us that it is all about flying the flag, just not as we know it.
My look: Fur coat by Etro, Union Jack embellished wool sweater, fur-felt wide-brim trilby hat, skinny denim pant with embroidery and Horsebit-detailed collapsible-heel metallic leather loafers, all by Gucci, classic Union Jack inspired flap bag by Chanel. 2013 is starting with a fashionable comeback of previous season’s must-haves of which some could be truly named vintage pieces. Another proof for my closet theory, keep everything, there will be a time to wear it again. So I am very happy to have all those pieces still in my wardrobe…
Olivia embellished leather waist belt by Moschino
The return of the iconic Moschino belt is probably the biggest surprise for me. I bought mine in Rome during my final school trip… a long time ago. It looks so used that I have ordered a new one now. Gosh, who would have thought that?!

Cordwainers graduate Charlotte Dellal launched her footwear label Charlotte Olympia, in 2006. Since then the quirky-cool collections have proved to be a must-have for style-setters worldwide. Look for high-voltage hues, texture-rich finishes and towering platforms. I just want to walk in her shoes and carry her bags! Personally speaking, there is nothing more beautiful on the market at the moment for me. If you are interested to get to know Charlotte more, click here for a previous interview I did with her.

My favorites are those Dolly platform pumps with detachable ruffled anklets…
and those Luna suede and metallic trimmed pumps.
And these Bruce crepe-covered leather sandals are definitely on my wish list, too!

All eyes are on Britain right now as the nation prepares for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee. To celebrate, I would like to spotlight more of the signature style of the (grand)mother of all fashion icons and the cool Britannia must-have sweaters you need to pledge allegiance and join the party.

Yesterday’s post about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee inspired me to take out my “Union Jack” bags. The use of the Union Jack in fashion is obviously nothing new and I have always been a huge fan of the British flag. As for me, it has already become a fashion classic.
My Union Jack classics from left to right: Bag by Chanel and clutch by Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen is probably one of the main perpetrators of this trend. The brand’s veritable explosion of Union Jack patterns on clothes and accessories make fashionistas drool with desire. Seriously, it’s like the flag just takes every outfit to a complete new level of style.
